a few months ago, i had an assignment for a new, weekly feature that the paper was starting called 'In Your Face'. the idea was to go out and get a bunch of headshots while at an event (as well as to get one good environmental shot that would anchor all the headshots). i liked the way the feature came out, but i had no idea they had put it online. what a pleasant surprise for me ;-)
anyways, there are a few examples here that are relevant to the 'singled out' challenge. enjoy!

Nice candids! (Based on the captions, you approached all of them for the release, right?)
Thanks for posting Something to Strive For again, Skip.

Those are fantastic candids! The slide presentation was put together nicely too. Did you get the quotes or do you have someone with you when you work on assignments such as this? |

i don't know about the US, but you don't need a 'release' in canada.
you just shoot, identify yourself, and ask them their name.
unless of course, you're putting them on a billboard.. maybe a different procedure.

Excellent collection :)
I guess that type of crowd would work well for the singled-out challenge. I get myself in a lot of sports crowds throughout the week but I have a problem when I raise my camera. These people have come to know who I am and what I'm doing and they start acting stupid for the camera as soon as I raise it.. lol

thanks, all!
this really was a blast! first, i had never been to a monster truck show, so that was cool enough. second, i had the reporter with me, and she handled hunting down all the names and quotes. all i had to do was look for interesting people, shoot 'em, and then send her off to capture the info (oh, if it could always be this easy...).
and john, i know exactly what you mean. you really have to be in sniping mode to get the candids before they make you ;-) |
