and for all ya'll complaining about lack of crowds, get over it. you could shoot this anywhere this is a line of people. any checkout line. a bar with just a few people sitting at the bar. any sporting event that has more than 4 players. all it takes is 'getting over your fear' and finding a creative way to isolate an individual from a group.

BAWAWAHHH, are you out of your mind? In this town you don't weild a camera in a check out line. Hell, I got kicked out of a store just for taking a shot of a flower, nevermind unsuspecting people! LOL....

Bars? I don't do bars. Don't drink, don't go there. Now, sporting events? There is an idea I already brought up previously. Since I have no one playing in them presently, (my son starts next month), I may just have to check where the next games are. Oh, yeah, we also have a little "flea mall" that people flock to on Saturdays and Sundays. LOL....Or even to the little road side yard sales!? LOL....

Just kidding with you. I am sure I can find something interesting to shoot. I LOVE a new challenge!!

Rose,

I understand what you are saying, but, IMHO, it's not an excuse for entering a shot of a lone person in front of a blurry building.

The point (as I read it) of this challenge, is to isolate one person from a group of people, using focus as the tool to do that.

If the AP calls me tommorrow for a shot of the St. Louis Arch (I wish) they wouldn't be very happy if I sent them a shot of the Washington Monumnet with a note "there aren't any arches near me."

FWIW, etc.

I have been approached every time I am in town with my camera even when I am not taking pics that have people in them. I can't see getting a pic of any decent quality without getting harrassed.

Hehe. You could tell the ephfolks to mind their own business. Or you could move to Amherst, where things are probably still a bit more on the liberal side.

The description of a challenge is only a guide and not be be confused with a requirement - see recent discussion on the 4am deal :-) If you don't include people or a crowd, I assume it will be more up hill to get a good score but that's all.

I know, I know, but I personally follow the site guidelines...

"While voting, users are asked to keep in highest consideration the topic of the challenge and base their rating accordingly."

I never suggested DQing a photo without a group of people, but I sure won't vote it above a 3.

Here's a dumb question. Do you just find someone, take a picture and hope they don't get pissed off at ya?

Do you go up to them after you shoot it? Or run like hell?

people normally don't get pissed off at having their picture taken, unless you are acting like you are doing something that would piss them off. if you think you are going to have to run, then you are probably doing something you shouldn't be doing in the first place.

as for this site and challenges like this, you don't have to 'go up to anyone.' model releases are not required unless you are going to use the image commercially.

basically, just go out and take pictures of people. be discreet, but don't act like you have something to hide.

Well, looks like my point & shoot and I are singled out of this challenge. Oh well, if I had a fancy camera I'd be all over it, so I can't whine too much.

There should be some really good shots in this one.
