Hey,
I'm just wondering about pixel aspect ratio and my camera. I'll make this short. For Christmas I printed out soccer photos of my neice and nephew and did a whole sports illustrated cover thing. Came out great, their parents loved it.
Anyway, the original image was RAW (NEF for you Nikon people) I opened it up in PhotoShop as big as I could at 20.3 x 13.9 (Not sure on the decimals) at 300 dpi. So I took it in to get it printed. While I was there I looked at the frames. No frame could accomodate my photo. strange, I looked online, no one offers a frame at 20" x 13". The closest I could find was 20 x 16. Infact 20 x 16 seems the standard.
This puzzles me.
Why would'nt Nikon make the camera take an image at a standard aspect ratio or vice versa?
Or is it me and I'm missing something. I' think it's the latter. |

When saving the photograph you are going to need to crop to 1.50:1 ratio. As it is now you have a 1.46:1 ratio. A 1.50:1 ratio will give you more print size options.

Digital cameras don't have the same format/ratio as regular 35mm cameras. Cropping or border adding is a way to fix the problem.

4x6 is a standard print & framing ratio
So is 5x7 and 8x10
You'll notice that those are not all the same ratio either.
There isn't a standard ratio. Hasseblad cameras use a square format negative. A lot of medium format is 4"x5"
I've got a digital camera that shoots 16:9 ratio as its default. |
