Is it true that females (I know a few metrosexuals that as well) cannot leave the house or where ever it is you live without makeup? If so, what that one most essential make up item you need?

For me, I can leave the house with uncombed hair. I let it dry naturally since combing it often doesn't make a big difference. It's wavy, so I'd just take a hair clip. Oh, and I carry lip balm with me. My lips get dried easily because of my medication.

I(an older female) only wear makeup for special occasions, makeup makes my face itch. I only carry lip balm, this time of year my lip dry out. But I usually have two cameras on me. I feel this way if you don't like the way I look all well too bad.

I rarely wear make-up unless I am going out (like to dinner, or a club or something out of the ordinary). I have wavy hair as well, so I comb it in the shower, throw it in a ponytail after it dries, and I am set till the next shower. On those really bad days, I might dab some concealer under my eyes...LOL

I get ready faster than my husband ;) I'd rather spend my money on camera stuff than fancy clothes or make-up. I don't mind my $15 haircuts either..LOL

mascara sometimes

Makeup never. $10 or $15 haircuts are the norm too LOL. Hair in a pony tail most of the time, but then I spend a lot of time in the barn with my horses too.

I very rarely wear make up and I've only done my eyebrows 3 times in my life. The fourth will be for my wedding and that will probably be it. I don't understand what the big deal with make up is. I have nothing against it but I really can't see myself spending all that time putting make up on in the mornin or whenever. I look the way a look and not even a thousand pounds of mascara is gonna change that. So....I save make up for special occassions that way when make IS indeed appropriate, I don't look the same way I look everyday. Does that make any sense?

can a male chime in here??? I wish a lot of women would not wear makeup (or maybe as much). I admit it does add a little more to some appearances but most go overboard and end up looking worse than if they didn't have any at all on.

I've known women (even married one) that spent forever on makeup. First had to do the base to hide all the face colors, then add color to the face we just hid all the color on, then eyes, then this and that only to have it look like crap in a couple hours when weather or sweat hits it.

My new wife and daughter both wear very little makeup (usually lip gloss and eye gook on certain occasions) and I really believe their skin is healtier for it.

To those that feel you must wear makeup to look beautiful, please remember that makeup is not a place where more is better...oh and while we're talking about more is not better...why do you some have to totally bathe in perfume to the point of gagging everyone around?...running and hiding now, please continue with your normal day.

p.s. chiqui I'm jealous of your ticker...I have about 42 months left in the Navy...I'm retiring but still jealous of your plans too. Good luck to you shipmate.

Never been into makeup. But I have good color and curly hair--so walking out the door with a towel-dried head in the morning and no makeup is the norm for me.

I work with about 25 women. Most wear little or no makeup. The ones who do are mostly fair-skinned blondes or over 50....people whos faces disappear without a little help.

Ditto on the perfume complaint. The only ones who should be able to tell you're wearing a scent are you and the people you know well enough to rub cheeks with.

I can't leave my house before I put on my lipstick and eyeliner. They are both of great importance to me. Followed by my blush, eye shadow, lip balm, and then my colored contact lenses. lol

Never thought I'd be reading about women's makeup on DPC though to be honest.

I wear standard makeup every day for work...not heavy in the least, but just enough to cover up the dark circles and add some color to my paleness. I don't want to scare the students. ;)

I don't have a problem going to the grocery store or Wal-Mart or anywhere like that without it though. My hair, since it's gotten long again, suffers the fate of the pony-tail or the hair clip a lot of the time because there's just too much of it to mess with a curling iron or hot rollers. Usually when it gets this long I get tired of copping out and not styling it, and wind up cutting it all off. I'm trying to resist that urge now. :)

So, should we put photographic spin on it?
Additional (photo-related) questions:
1. Do you allow others to take photos of you without your makeup on?
2. Have you ever been punched out by a woman for taking her picture without makeup on?
3. How do you convince a man sitting for his portrait that he needs just a little concealer to diminish the dark circles under his eyes--or do you just photoshop them out afterwards?

Not much makeup here. I have allergies, so eye makeup is often a pain to remember not to rub my eyes. I do wear some minimal stuff when I'm working to cover some real red tones to my face and to bring out the eyes a little. If I'm in jeans (which is most of the time), chances are I'm not wearing any makeup.

I had to laugh at our pastor several years ago during a sermon. He was preaching about all the little stupid stuff that churches fight over...things like "how much makeup should a woman wear?"

He said if a member of our church would come up to him and ask "Pastor, how much makeup should a woman wear?" his answer is, "If the barn needs painting, paint it!"

If I'm off work then I usually don't worry about it. Must have the lip balm though, I hate dry lips. I'm currently using Burt's Bees lip balm by Bath and Body Works. Stuff is awesome.
However, if I'm going to work or out with my man, then I'll put on the makeup. Base, mascara, eyeshadow, lipstick. I skip the blush and eyeliner, not too talented with those things. :D
@KaDi: I can only answer #1 on your question list as I don't take photos, but I hate having my picture taken and if I don't have makeup on, then it's a definite NO. :D

I pretty much take pictures without any make up at all. I don't really care. I actually cried several times having to put on make up. Mum loves it, but I can't stand it. I'm more of a naturalist so to speak.
Male make up, the guys at my school especially for their senior picture portrait don't mind a little make up. Some of the older guys I know wear make up. Not into cross dressing, but they're metrosexual. So it's usually consealers, thin eyeliner and lip balm.

I'd find that 80% of the guys I hang out with, carry hand lotion and/or lip balm. So if I ever have make up on, like most that has replied it's for a special ocassion, and most people (my school friends) don't recognise me. Not ugly or anything, just well... it's not me, but I'm hot. Lol.

Normal days, I'm just well I don't know, you decide. Here's a close up? picture of the difference.

This is a theory for myself, I probably don't wear make up because 1) I don't know how to apply anything, 2)So goddamn expensive (okay I get the really good ones like M.A.C if I ever buy make up), 3)waste of time and I just don't see how I'd like my face to age quickly.

It would apear most DPC members don't wear makeup. I speculate this is partialy due to the fact that they could risk getting makup in there cameras when looking through the eye piece. I suppose there could be few things more anoying than eyeliner in your veiw finder and blush on the lens..

But then again I could be wrong...it could just be that photographers just don't have the time mess with it..

Very rarely go out without make up - usually just mascara and shadow but otherwise everyone thinks I look ill! I agree I think blondes need to use colour more else they disappear.~ Mind you my daughter is very blonde and often doesn't wear makeup and looks stunning!

Hair - cannot go out without it brushed and trying to look tidy which is very difficult as it is very very fine, have a double crown and have to wash and blow dry it every day else I look like Tintin or daffy duck!

As you get older you do need a little more help to look reasonable!

BTW could someone tell me what metrosexual is? I am obviously getting old and haven't heard this term before!

I agree with sabphoto, too much makeup can make a woman look terrible.
One of the receptionists at my first job wore loads of make up and oneday she came in with non on and I asked the other receptionist who that was (after she had gone) when she told me who it was I was shocked.
Her skin looked dry, with little red veins showing, really pale and yuk.
Mum and my sister have never worn makeup and very occasionally my sister will wear lip balm.
Their skin and general complexion look loads better than those who wear make up all the time.
just my 2 cents worth.

The word metrosexual was created and officially put into dictionaries last year I believe. So the word basically means men that groom themselves to look good. They'd do pretty much what a stereotypical women does, probably with the exception of domestic cleaning. So they've wax/shave/pluck, spend time shopping for clothes like suits that make them look stunning. Also metrosexuals are usually very hygienic and appear gay but are usually heterosexual. This term also applies to homosexual and bisexual men as well.

The dictionary meaning: An urban male with a strong aesthetic sense who spends a great deal of time and money on his appearance and lifestyle.

No makeup for me. I'm allergic to most of it. Lipstick only to dress up. I'm happy not to bother with makeup. (When my boyfriend sees women with a lot of makeup he always thinks they are hookers.)

I used to get $10 haircuts, but after my regular hairdresser moved away and I had gotten several bad haircuts, I had my boyfriend cut it for me. I think he was really scared the first time. Now it is pretty funny when I get a complement on my hair he is really proud. (More money to put toward lenses.)

I think a lot of women go way overboard on the makeup.

As far as marinating in perfume/cologne goes, it's not just women, a lot of men do it too. Maybe to cover for poor hygiene? In any event, people who walk around bringing their own little cloud of choking fragrance are not a significant improvement over the guy who hasn't showered in several weeks.

Makeup? If I remember, a little light lipstick.
For the rest, my California tan has to make do.

Speaking from a mans point of view, I prefer VERY little makeup. A nice natural face is beautiful. There are , however, some women whose appearance is completely changed by the makeup, and maybe for a photoshoot that is super, but for everday, natural beauty cannot be beat.

As a hairstylist and makeup artist for 20 years I find this thread very interesting. If I am just staying home or running to the corner store I will go without makeup and just comb my hair. Otherwise I always wear makeup and fix my hair before going out of the house. I don't feel completely dressed without a little makeup and my hair done. When I was still doing hair and makeup I wore much more makeup than I do now. As I have gotten older I wear only a minimal amount.

I think it depends on individual people as to whether they look better with or without makeup. I have blonde hair and very light icy blue eyes with blonde lashes. Without some kind of makeup on my eyes, they hardly show up and I look so blaaa. My youngest daughter on the other hand has dark hair and hazel eyes with dark eye lashes and looks great without makeup.
