This is a comment I just recieved from someone named anusaha
This is not original at all. I thought the image looked familiar...I used to have this as a background back in high school. A quick image search confirmed this is an over-photographed site. Originality aside, I can't say I'm impressed by the technical quality either.

People crack me up. I guess if a location has been photographed before I'm not allowed to shoot there. ;o)

You did report the comment... calling the user out publicly might not be the best way to address it if you feel it's out of line. IMO, it may show utter ignorance, but it's nor out of line.
if I received it I might find it humorous, nothing more.

Why do people feel the need to slam commentors? Did this comment cause you to lose your job, house, car, wife, kids, plasma tv? Did this comment cause you physical harm in any way? Did this comment break your Canon EOS-1D mark II? You say that people crack you up. Why did you have to out them in the forums?
This is not conduct conducive to making sure people feel free to give comments... |

jealousy
need to feel better
basically untalented and need to point out others lack thereof
mean spirited
jealousy
operating at an angle other than 90/180 degrees
elevator goes up but never reaches the top floor
elevator goes down and is somewhere below the basement level
jealousy
just plain meanness
lack of vision, insight, integrity
new and doesn't know/understand how to comment properly

Or maybe it is the fact that this commentor has just started commenting and has not been on the site long enough to know how/why to comment properly... I don't see anything improper in the comment. It's what the commentor felt when they hit post... |

My response was to the question in the title, not the comment he referred to. |

Opinion is opinion, no matter how rediculous the comment. A wise photographer can discern any grain of truth there may be contained within.

I LOVE this one! LOL....
One commentor says "an overall graininess". The very next comment? "Just the right softness!". LOL....This why comments are not really my thing.

They may be new and ignorant or they may be another troll, looking to stir up people by leaving rude comments. It wouldn't be the first time.

Hardly - Just means they didn't put in a value or maybe they shoot on film/slides. Besides, not having a camera does not mean you cannot have an opinion. Not trying to defend the rude comment.....

You just have to laugh, don't worry about it. There are very few non-photographed sites left on the planet. FWIW, I though it was a great shot. I have no doubt there are people who don't like it - it's their opinion; although they should say it with less hositility, they have a right to that opinion.
btw.... If we are only going to let one person photograph an area then I bars Yellowstone - I could let others take pictures for, say, $5 a pop [obviously for non-commercial uses otherwise it would need to be on a per usage basis fee] :-) |

All the low votes I've received have been from jealousy. There's no other logical explanation. |

I remeber when I received a comment that was quite rude and I looked in the forums and found a thread where people were discussing the comments this individual was leaving. I felt better knowing that I was not singled out and that it seemed that the person was being dealt with.

why do people feel the need to "call someone out" on the boards, and discouraging even more people from commenting is a more prodominant question for me.
Maybe you need to grow some thicker skin Brent, she has every right to that opinion, it wasn't rude and it's not like you haven't said worse yourself. |

i don't think this is a useful thread and I'm locking it. I agree with kirbic who gave some sage advice earlier in this thread.
Report post/comment is the best way to deal with a situation. As frustrated and personally affronted as you might feel, take solace that the site council is looking into the situation, and even if we choose to do nothing, it doesn't mean we didn't take your pain seriously, its just that other principles needed to be considered first. |

I will likely get slammed for this but...
Is the commentor really ignorant? That spot has in fact been photographed numerous times and therefore it could be argued that the shot is not very original.
From a technical standpoint although it might seem nit picky the photo is not perfect.
I agree there are certainly comments that are ridiculous (I got one that said "BAD BAD...what the hell are you thinking...take this person off worst ever") which has no indication what the commenter didn't like or what I might do better. Openning a thread because you don't like someone's opinion (especially a valid one) seems a bit like overkill and sour grapes.
Just because your photo does well doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement. |
