I've never really tried my hand at candids until yesterday when I went out to take some shots for the City Life challenge. I'm really looking for some helpful comments here, as I know these aren't the best people shots ever...;)
Here's a few:
And here's a new Triptych that I made the other day:
Anywho...thanks in advance for the helpful comments. I'm so glad that I have a place like this, I've learned so much since I've been here....I think that you can see it in my work. It slowly...but surely improves.
Thank you for that. |

Caleb - I like them a lot and I think you're off to a great candid shot start. Number 3 is my favorite. I think shots like these look best in black and white and I like the deep tones of yours. |

You're doing a good job so far. The most important thing about candids is the guts to just get out there and start shooting. You can't expect every shot you take to be an award winning one and that's what I like about it. That's also the beauty of digital, not having to worry about wasting film. The key to good candids, in my opinion, is showing people actually doing something natural. That can be people interacting or simply catching an interesting facial expression. Don't be afraid to get a little bit closer to your subjects. Another technique I use, especially in an area where there are a lot of people, is to first find a good background for a photo, something that may show an interesting juxtaposition of meanings, or have great light and shadows, and wait for just the right person to enter the scene. As you can tell, candids are my favorite form of photography. I could look at them all day. I'm going to leave some individual comments on some of your pics as well. Keep submitting these types of shots. |

thanks JPR...your comments really helped me to see things differently. I appreciate it, I'm hoping to get a little better at my candid work in the future as it is deff one of my favorite types of photography... |
