Are there any warranties that you can purchase that DO cover accidental damage? I know people say that a Mac warranty is good...and then there is the actual product warranty...but those only cover non-accidental problems.

Yeah, it's called home owners insurance.
The problem is, with all insurance (or warranties you pay extra for) is that teh warranty/insurance company is making money. That means on average, you are better NOT to buy the coverage.

I rarely if ever buy extended warranties - used one on a car once, and noever had the need for one since on anything.

As for homeowners, I have a $500 deductible and it will cover my cameras..BUT is a claim worth it? I have been told ANY claim, even ones that are NOT PAID will raise your rates! So i drop my rebel in teh river...file a claim. Get maybe $750 for it, i have to pay the first $500...so i net $250. I could have bought a used rebel for under $500 and had no claim, no increase in rates...

The manager at Ritz told me I could throw my camera against a wall and they'd cover it.

When I worked at The Good Guys in California we'd take back any broken electronic regardless of how it was broken if it was covered under the extended warranty.

I had a minidisc player 10-12 years back or so (paid $700 for it) and after 3 years of owning it I dropped it. Brought it in and told them I dropped it and they gave me $650 worth of store credit (they had stopped carrying minidisc players).

My dog chewed appart my $650 Sprint PDA phone and they replaced it for a $50 deductable.

In both cases I just told them the truth.

I have insurance via the NANPA

Covers me for theft, accidental damage, stupidity, dropping in a river etc, even if overseas. Costs a bit though.

The local camera shop has a deal where you pay 250 and they give you 3 year anything happens, bring in the peices and they replace it free.

Not sure I trust getting it.
