The reason I asked about high quality printing at home, is that a bar here in Melbourne has shown some interest in some of my prints. I am looking for the ability to print high quality up to 8x10. Anyone else want to comment on the ability of the HP 7xxx series to print high quality before I go shopping? (or any other printers)
I would just order prints from here, it is so cheap, but there is the time gap, and the shipping to australia cost in $USD |

I don't know about the hp7xxx series, but I've heard raves about the Epson printers. The 2200 is the best, with 7 color tanks and archival abilities to 100 years. If the price is too high for that one (that's the grand), then the 960 is not quite as good quality, but much cheaper (around 350-400). That's all I could say. |

I hae been whittling these printers down myself. The Epson 2200 and the NEW Canon i9100 are where I am at. The Canon was suppose to be out in April, but now here in July sometime.
There is a price difference with the 2200 more expensive by $200, but I think the quality and archival is better on the Epson. Good to compare them, and decide what you can and can live without.
Here is a good forum on it. //search.dpreview.com/forums/search.asp?query=epson+canon+printer

Firstly, congrats!
Secondly, don't forget to look into longevity of prints that you create at home on a standard printer. I believe that sites such as DPC Prints use archival quality paper and inks which means that the prints should last much longer than prints on standard paper or with standard inks.
I can understand the issue of time and shipping (I'm in the UK).
Are there any local companies that would offer professional printing at lower postage and with faster turnaround times?
I think there are a few in UK so there must be some in Oz too...

The Epson 2200 using pigment inks is supposed to give pretty good longevity for the prints (60 years or so)
The dye based inkjet inks give much better saturation but don't last much beyond a year or so. |
