Evening all. I decided to use the advice given to me by David in the critique of my Office Art entry 'Morning Coffee' to good use (not to say it would have been wasted if I had not done this of course) and as such I came up with a different version here.
In the original shot I was hoping to catch the steam coming from the cup, but that didn't work at all. Given that I, really should have re-thought the shot, but I didn't and as such my score probably suffered from it - since the cup was a bit of a bland feature.
Anyway, I just wanted to post the two images here and ask for your thoughts on the subject... Do you prefer the original? Do you feel I've put the advice to good use? I would really appreciate some feedback from these.
Cheers, Alan.

I like how you focussed on the pencils without the coffee. I think this makes for a more definate subject matter. I also went back and applied comments on a photo to the photo after the challenge ended. The comments were seperated between people who thought the reflection in the eye was distracting, and people who really liked it. I submitted both on psig a long time ago, and it didn't get as good of reviews with the light reflection removed. So, I stick with my original choice WITH the reflection.
You never know until you try. |

Why not take out ONE of the reflections and leave the other. It is having them on both sides I find most distracting. The one on the right looks eerily like my "Sunspot" entry for Off-Center.
And I see some other tiny light specks over the iris as well; I'd take them out too.

I agree with GeneralE about keeping only one of the reflections. Mitonski, I think the pencils by themselves make a very nice image, better than with the coffee. |

The reflections give the eye the edge. To me the interest level is really heightened, great if that's more important to you as an artist. |
