You know, I've been wondering, how do you ask somebody to pose for you....nude....? I have somebody in mind but I dont want her to think I'm a pervert or that I'm going to use the photos for shady pusposes or anything like that. Help will be greatly appreciated!

Be very straight very direct and ask. Also protect both yourself and her by offering a contract that states exactly what the photos will be use for.

Also if it is someone you know very well offer to let her help you select the one you will use that way she doesn't feel exploited in the end.

I wonder if anybody here has a contract that I can look at and get an idea.

I actually have a signed contract with the artist I work with. It reads as follows

This document serves as good faith formal agreement stating that (model's name) will receive the sum of_____ from (artist's name)for each image created from a collaboration of ideas between the two parties.

(Model's name) will view all finished artwork prior to its public display for final approval of the finished work.

Then we both signed and dated it and had it notorized. Although it appears to be very simple it was actually written up by a gallery owner who wanted to make sure we both knew what to expect and so at a later date me as the model for the paintings couldn't come back and sue for misrepresentation.

I actually had it looked over by an attorney and he told me if all I wanted was final approval and the agreed upon amount of money then the contract was perfect.

No, here's a model release without payment terms:

a) the unrestricted right and permission to copyright and use, re-use, publish, and republish photographic portraits or pictures of me or in which I may be included intact or in part, composite or distorted in character or form, without restriction as to changes or transformations in conjunction with my own or a fictitious name, or reproduction hereof in color or otherwise, made through any and all media now or hereafter known for illustration, art, promotion, advertising, trade, or any other purpose whatsoever.

b) I also permit the use of any printed material in connection therewith.

c) I hereby relinquish any right that I may have to examine or approve the completed product or products or the advertising copy or printed matter that may be used in conjunction therewith or the use to which it may be applied.

d) I hereby release, discharge and agree to save harmless [photographer], his/her heirs, legal representatives or assigns, and all persons functioning under his/her permission or authority, or those for whom he/she is functioning, from any liability by virtue of any blurring, distortion, alteration, optical illusion, or use in composite form whether intentional or otherwise, that may occur or be produced in the taking of said picture or in any subsequent processing thereof, as well as any publication thereof, including without limitation any claims for libel or invasion of privacy.

e) I hereby affirm that I am over the age of majority and have the right to contract in my own name. I have a model release that I use that has payment terms, but if there is no payment ot be made, just put $0 in that spot...
07/05/2003 09:19:34 PM · #8
Actually a model release with 0 dollars as a term would be a contract instead of a release and would stand more chance of being challenged in court. I wouldn't make it like a contract at all. :)

here are all the options open to someone who wants to shoot a nude, that i can think of, in order of increasing difficulty.

1) ask a close friend or lover, just be direct, show them a printout of a screenshot of dpchallenge.com's front page and explain about how it's a contest.

2) ask a less close friend - do the same as above. or ask them to ask a friend who might be suitable, if you think the odds are good.

3) go on //www.onemodelplace.com and do a search in your area for aspiring or established models who will do nudes. There are often many aspiring models who will do work in exchange for copies of the images for their portfolios, but they also have to think that doing it is worth their time for their careers, too. If you pay someone though, that's not a problem. however, you might have to get lucky to make something happen in the short timeframe.

4) call up a modeling agency. be prepared to pay through the wazoo. . .

5) meet someone in a bar and ask them - gotta be smooth and cool here.

6) meet someone on the street and ask them - gotta be insane smooth for this to work.

-- also, female photographers have the advantage that people dont automatically assume you are a perv. they think of you as an artist. if you are male, you have to be a lot more careful not to come off like one : ) ... so dont even worrry about that. in fact you would probably have more luck with 5_ and 6_ than I would ...

Hope that helps..

you forgot this one...

7) call the local college art dept and tell them you are doing a nude study in photography and ask if they can either recommend a model from the student list or if they could post the job in the dept. College student work cheap and the models used in art depts usually get paid a very nominal fee.

Earlier tonight I took a series of nude photos and I just finished downloading from the card and took my first look...all I can say is OOPS got something I didn't want in the best two photos...

I was also very challenged too, two of the kittens are still here and haven't found a home yet. They think my backdrop is so cool and a kitty toy and they want to play with it the whole time...I got some good shots of my model but I also got kittens!!!!

i had to yell at my kitties a lot to make them stop playing with my backdrop. but they still get wild with it sometimes :P ...

I had this really cool shot and the one kitten is behind the models foot and I was getting ready to touch it up and cover up the kitten when I realized there was a slight oversite on my part of something showing that shouldn't have been...Oh well tomorrow is another day to shoot. I think accessorizing might solve the problem!!!!

Yes, i know exactly what you mean. It makes it even more difficult if the prospective model isn't all that familiar with photography in general and automatically thinks Playboy or pornography when the words nude photography are brought up. What makes it more difficult too is if you don't have a room in your house dedicated as a studio. As a result, both the model and the photographer could feel ill at ease. For the time being, i refrain from doing nudes.

A little creative cropping could solve your problem. (Yes, I meant the photo!)

Thought about that and even some spot editing would solve it but when I tried it just didn't look good...just to much hanging out, oh please don't tell him I said that. LOL
