R.I.P., Richard Pryor

He was one of my favorite comedians back in the day... it's been sad watching him struggle the past several years with his illness, but ultimately, it was a heart attack that ended his life this morning. :(

Guess all those years of doing drugs finally caught up with him.
Stir Crazy and Brewster's Millions are 2 of my favorite movies and always loved Sanford and Son.

Well, it wasn't the drugs that "caught up with him". He had MS
Heart attacks kill more than just drug abusers.

In my opinion he was the best of the best.

Rest in peace, Richard.

I believe you're thinking of Demond Wilson.

Yup. For what it's worth, another person who also "shook up the establishment" a bit -- Sen. Eugene McCarthy -- also died today.

The first heart attack he had was while he was on coke probably about thirty years ago.

No, Pryor did not ACT in Sanford and Son, but he did write the scripts.

Richard Pryor's best movie role was in the vastly underrated almost forgotten classic 'Blue Collar' created in 1978 and co-starring Yaphet Kotto and Harvey Keitel. It concerns auto workers in Detroit and how they are exploited not only by their employer but also by their union. It is available on DVD and is definitly worth checking out.

Richard Pryor was cool. So sad to hear about him. Harlem Nights with Eddie Murphy was one of my favourite movies of his!

He was the King....I remember when "he was gettin' bad" in Stir Crazy. Anyone remember that scene?

I hadn't seen any news today and just saw this. Too bad, he was a great comedian.

I loved Brewster's Millions as a kid. I must have seen that movie a dozen times.

THen when I saw him in Lost Highway he just looked so frail. A shell of the man he used to be.

I'll miss him.

Richard, you have given the world the gift of laughter. You made us forget our worries. You made us smile in times of darkness. You poked fun at yourself when you were at your lowest. Most people would have given up then, you didn't. For that we will be forever grateful. Thank you.
