i'm calling you out, son.
i for one, believe you when you say you uploaded the wrong version for your free study entry. no one in their left or right mind would submit one with this much neat image...
so now where's the version of this that you were supposed to upload?

As my text in this image states, lessons learned in the way images need to be named. This happened to me in the tools of the trade challenge. Wrong image uploaded again. I did use NI to the hilt but on this crop, it's not as evident. |

Oh and here's some interesting things about the submitted image.
The "overprocessed" eyes actually were reflections from the huge windows we have in our office. My friend Linzy was kind enough to pose for me during lunch break.
The nose's edge was natural but I guess the way the light hit it caused some weird distortions. No flash was used but now that I think of it, I should have used one.
I've never tried a shot like this as I mentioned in the forums. portariture seems all new to me. In as much as I could have entered images liek this one (see below), I felt the need to experiment and enter something that I wasn't comfortable with... at the time and of course I was wrong. Isn't hindsight great?
Anyway, I just wanted to congratulate everyone on a job well done. The talent that runs wild within our group is phenomenal and i attribute all what I've learned so far from all of you.

Hey Rikki - since we all have your attention - I got a guess on my Free Study that I was you! :)

actually, i don't think you were wrong at all... i had the same thought with mine. normally i'm taking shots of things too small to be seen... i really love taking 1:1 and even 2:1 macro shots, but i thought i should stretch myself so i took a landscape (cause what could be farther from 2:1 than landscapes, right?) bravo for being brave enough to step out of your comfort zone...

Hey Matt. I'll apologize for the good Doc. He always bad at taking a guess which image is mine. However, I did at one point experiment in high key photography so I guess that's where he got it from. He's only guessed my images I think 3x and all were dismal failures :)
I think what happened was that throughout the week, since I post my scores all the time, the curiosity grew in terms of why can an image garner such a number of commenst and yet still score so low. At mid-week, it almost became a "Where's Waldo" event for which I apologize to the good people of DPC. It was never my intent to hijack the thread with my image but at the same time, it was also fun seeing people's reactions to the posting of my scores and comments. My goal (since the image was experiental) was to score above a 5 and I barely got there :)
Again, congrats to everyone on a job well done. If there will be a Best of 2005, no experiements from me. I'll really submit my "best" image (which counted against the talent here, will be a 5+).
:D |

I gave you a 6, Rikki! Eventhough the processing was harsh indeed, the exposure and composition were very nice and so I rewarded that.

Yes, while I was able to find Bear (per his challenge that I couldn't), I have never been able to nail a Rikki yet.
I always take being mistaken for someone else as a form of flattery. ;) I got mistaken for Graphicfunk twice in one challenge (D&L) early in my DPC career. I felt highly praised.

Hehehehe! I think this is why I always try using different techniques. It keeps people guessing. Anyway, you'll have a couple more tries in the Knife and Too Early challenge.
You up to it?

Hey Rikki!
You've been around all night and that's a little long
You think you've got the right but I think you've got it wrong
Why can't you say goodnight so you can take me home, Rikki
'Cause when you say you will, it always means you won't
You're givin' me the chills, baby, please baby don't
Every night you still leave me all alone, Rikki
Oh Rikki, what a pity you don't understand
You take me by the heart when you take me by the hand
Oh Rikki, you're so pretty, can't you understand
It's guys like you Rikki
Oh, what you do Rikki, do Rikki
Don't break my heart, Rikki
Hey Rikki!
Now when you take me by the??? ??? ???? gonna know
Everytime you move?? ???? ???? gonna show
There's somethin' we can use, so don't say no, Rikki
So come on and give it to me any way you can
Any way you wanna do it, I'll treat you like a man
Oh please, baby, please, don't leave me in a jam, Rikki
Oh Rikki, what a pity you don't understand
You take me by the heart when you take me by the hand
Oh Rikki, you're so pretty, can't you understand
It's guys like you Rikki
Oh, what you do Rikki, do Rikki
Don't break my heart, Rikki

LOL Not at all! I did take it as a compliment as far as I could (messing around with a technique) lol I just thought it was funny so I posted it in here. :)

I've never been mistaken for anyone else... though it would be nice to be mistaken for a photographer in a challenge or two...

Originally posted by macpapas: Rikki, I don't care who gets the Blue, it's obvious that someone who can captivate a crowd like this with a "5.0" picture is a winner! :-) You should note your "profile views" number before the challenge results tonight and then report back to us tomorrow night - I'm sure you'll get a few hundred hits! |
Mark I took your advice. From last night to tonight exactly 24 hours after I last checked my profile hits, I have registered a staggering 368 hits. This is quite amazing considering DPC was down for 7+ hours last night/this morning.
Thanks all :D |

So Rikki, why NI? I need to know. Your image definatly caught everyone's eye. It caught mine. So, again, why NI? For what possible reason could it have been needed? Does the girl have a major case of zits? Is your camera on the skits? Why us it at all? Help me here. I guess as a realist in my portraiture I have a hard time comprehending the librodo effect. (though librodo's compositions are just as stunning and he does use NI with a slight bit more discretion)
