Ok, i feel a little stupid on this one. I actually work at an electronics store in the digital camera department and i know a lot about the point and shoot cameras. But the SLR's are another story. I know the basics I took my photo classes for 4 years, its not the operation of the cameras but more what they can do compaired to each other.Im just confused what the big difference is between these cameras. (besides the nikon being 6MPs vs the Canon's being 8MPs. If anyone can help me figure out the difference between these 4 cameras I would be most greatful

As a starting point you might want to run the side by side comparison over at dpreview just to see what specs are different. You'll find that they're all pretty close.

ive looked at the specs side by side, thats part of why im posting.... Im just not seeing the main differences

I could type out a long review, but I am incredibly lazy today so let me suggest going to DPreview side by side comparison

It'll gove you more information than I ever could.

I will say in this class of camera the differences in megapixels doesn't make a whole lot of difference between the cameras.

That's just it. I think the biggest difference you'll find is in how the controls are layed out. For me Canon has them where I expect them and Nikon feels weird.

What do you mean by the 'main' differences?

D'Oh, I posted too slow.

Truth of the matter is (and some people may argue this) there isn't much difference. Aside from the few specs in the side by side they are all pretty much the same and can all produce great pictures.

When I bought my Nikon I bought it for the lens. Once you go down a path (if you're smart or not filthy rich)you stick to it. Nikon and Canon are pretty competative so you can pretty much count on them trumping the other every 6 months or so.

the d70 is faster than the d50, and the d70's kit lens is better.

the 20d is built out of stronger materials than the rebel, and is also faster (shooting at 5 fps) the 20d has better autofocus.

They are all pretty similar, the d70 and 20d (especially 20d) are just higher performers, the image quality in all is pretty similar.

And for me, Nikon has controls where I expect them and Canon feels weird (but hey, user bias). Those are the main differences I think of. Most people would probably do just as well with one or the other, but 20d is kind of a cut above the rest of all of them.

Once a shot has been downsized for web viewing or printed on an 8x10 there's no difference at all.

Keeping in mind that a camera is a tool to take pictures then the difference becomes the features implemented on the camera body.

cheers,
bazz.

the difference is that the 20D is the best out of all 3

When customers ask me about the cameras generally they dont like reading the cards we have with the few specs nor do they like to do research (on a camera like these go figure) and thats statement is basically how many customers put it, "whats the main difference between this and this" and I just wish i could give them a good answer. Im going to check out that comparison now by the way. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction
