I want to shoot a wedding and a couple of portrait/group shots. I'm not getting paid for them but I want to do the jobs as if I were. The only lens I have that I have respect for is the EF-S 10-22. I wanted a 24-70L by now but finances don't allow this. I am currently thinking of either the Tam 28-75 which I'd sell if I got the 24-70L or the 50mm 1.4 which I may well not sell. If I get the prime, I'd probably borrow an 18-55 lens, which is better than the 35-80 that I have borrowed.

For a wedding you'll want something wider than 50mm. I don't know about the 10-22 for a wedding since I don't have one, but I'd highly recommend the Tamron 28-75 because it's flexible and fast. :)

Paul, I second the vote for the Tamron 28-75. Its sharpness and speed rival the Canon 24-70, ...at one-third the price! I also have the 10-22 (for which I traded my 17-40L), and am looking forward to using both in a couple of weddings I've booked for next year.

Get the Tamron. You won't regret it.

Paul, I second third the vote for the Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di. Sharp and fast - an amazing value.

I shot my entire once-in-a-lifetime wedding with the Tamron 28-75mm. Not only that, not all that long ago I had the chance to buy the 24-70mm Canon for less than $600 and turned it down. The Tamron's that good.

Since you have the 10-22, the tammie is the best choice. I use a Sigma 18-50 2.8 and for indoors it is great. Lots of folks use teh canon 17-40 4L for weddings. For outdoor weddings i want more reach, and you will too (even indoors at times). 28 is not wide enough indoors, but you have the 10-22 for that.

If you are using flash for everything, then speed is not as critical.

I've got the 580ex should I take the stofen omnibounce as well?

I didn't even contemplate using the 10-22. For the Tammie, if I get this will I notice the gap between 22-28 rather than 22-24 for things other than this month? As I said, I have no problems spending the money on the 24-70 but it's a matter of timing.
