On cpanaioti's suggestion, I've decided to take this to another thread.
Plus I'm trying to boost my stats. J/K
Ok, I want to turn off my update button, but I can't. So, I (and I'm sure others) would like help with suggestions for some type of program to help me get off this addiction.
This program is only for when your scores are seriously tanking. If you're doing well, go away :P
So, I will be on the couch.
HELP ME!
In case you can't tell since this a forum, this is all meant with a sense of humor!

| Go to the bank and get a roll of quarters. Every time you click the update button, put one in a "piggy bank" -- on 12/24, take it and give it to your favorite local charity. I predict those frequent, inconvenient trips to the bank will modify your behavior before that. |

Just be sure to make the charitable donation and not head out for an L-lens!

The first step is admitting you have a problem.

Hello. My name is JP.
I went through this during the even challenge pidge, I feel your pain. 48 hours of no update, no scores, no knowing. It was good. It was bad. Pulled in two directions. Then your skin starts to itch.
Then the bugs.
It was when I started seeing those damn dead people I knew I had to click .. click .. click .. click.
My name is JP, I'm an update addict.

| I was on the DPC for almost a year before I knew what people were talking about when they mentioned the update button (I always ignore the scores postings). I could care less about scores, but I REALLY want to know when I got a comment. |

Just became a member few days back and realized I did an utterly stupid mistake by becoming one, posting a picture for free study and getting a decent enough score that I can't stop updating !!
So I decided to find a better way to update the scores than go to the website all the time, those using firefox may be aware of the various extensions. Now since I couldnt find an extension, I wasted 3 hours trying to figure out how to make one myself (not to mention I updated 100 times during those 3 hours)
By the end of those 3 hours, I declared myself insane and started finding ways to not update! So this is what I came up with as possible solutions
1) Simple but doesnt work, turn off the score (I turned it back on after 15 minutes
2) Turn off the score and don't have the page open
3) Turn off the score, no page open, close the browser
4) Turn off the score, no page, close browser, disconnect web (now how do i check my emails)
By step 4 you are already in a 5 step process before u can see your updated score !!
Now stop browsing through the forums

Exactly! Most users on the 12-step program would be greatly helped if turning off scores did not also turn off comments.
I recently went a whole 3 hours before I had to turn scores back on because I wanted to see if I had a comment--and I did have a comment! Then I turned them off again, only to peek and find out that not only did I have a comment, but I also had a favorite! It's too painful, really. Couldn't we just turn off scores without the side-effects?

The best possible cure (and this comes from a recovering addict, mind), is to begin thinking about the next challenge immediately it is announced - after all, there is nothing you can actually do to affect your score in voting.
The most remarkable feeling of all is getting a ribbon when you have absolutely no idea that your shot is even in contention; but I think everyone would find that there scores increase for the more time spent on their next submission, rather than their last. Certainly mine did.

Very good advice... except I've got finals so I don't *really* have the time to work on future submission. I'd much rather, though! I'm with Vikas since all my assignments are online... sneaking a pick at my update button :P
Ok, We've got about four steps now... still need eight more to make this a sucessful solution! |
