Would love critiques on this photo.
Some details about the shot: It was taken in Logan Square, Philadelphia during evening. I was sitting on a bench to catch my breath when this group of kids came by, took of their shirts and started playing 'fountain football'. It was a warm day. A bunch of other kids escorted by their parents looked on enviously...some of them did rebel and get into the water.
It would be great to hear technical critiques as well as critques on what emotions the photo evokes in the user (if any). If it is necessary to be harsh, please be so. I'm here to learn.
And, thanks for your time.

I like the boys in the water, and I like the fountain, but together it just seems like too much going on to me. |

I think what you've captured is great but, like chaimelle said, maybe a bit too much. I'm not sure what your original looks like but can you do a tighter crop so the photo is just the boys? I'm not sure that you need the football and you definitely don't need the buildings, etc., to make the photo. |

Agree with mk and chaimelle regarding technical aspects. With regard to emotional response, well, I might have had a stronger one but I spent a long time trying to make visual sense of the scene. As stated before, there is a lot going on. My first thought was the boys looked like they were having fun. No real emotional drama going on, for me anyway. Hope this helps. |

From the aspect ratio of the shot, it looks like you cropped top/bottom. My first thought was it would be nice if you were more focused (tighter, not sharp) on the boys. But, I think having the fountain and city as a backdrop tells the story. I think it would be better if you could have gotten closer (or zoomed more) and not cut the top/bottom off, and maybe use a more shallow DOF (wider aperature). That way, you could direct attention to the boys, but still keep the scene true.
I do love how you got the moving football in the shot. That's awsome!
