Three breaks in his right arm, after taking a bad jump/fall while trying to catch a bird that had gotten in to our garage. Sat in casualty for ages waiting our turn, and I watched the Dr. chit chat (small talk, I could hear) with nurses while my son was crying with pain. Eventually he was given some pethidine while I was questioned rather curiously about whether he was "testing his limits" or "an unruly child" I suspect the Dr. was taking a circuit of questioning that would lead back to my being responsible. I know, they do this but it made me sick to my stomach. Dr plastered up his arm and we spent the night in hospital as the orthopedic wasn't in until the next day.We had to wait until the operating thearte wasn't busy and his was whisked in to have the bones straightened and set under anaesthetic. Could have been worse no pins or screws and the cast should be off in 4 weeks...YIPEE. This is the second time I've been through this, his older brother fell from a flying fox in local park a few years ago so I knew what to expect.
My son asked me "Are people's bones meant to break?" as if he had never believed it before.
Here he is all doped up.

Awww...poor little guy. I feel for you. My oldest broke his arm in three places about 18 months ago (he was doing some weird Neo-Matrix jump on a trampoline but missed ::rolls eyes:: ).
I hope the docs have your son up and back to normal in no time...kids heal so quickly and are so resilient. You should probably rest when he is "all doped up" because you need to take care of yourself too. ;)
Keep us posted! :)

Laurie,
I always wanted to get them a trampoline...I might hold off for a while now LOL or wait till I can afford one with a net.
Charlie,
It don't matter what the injury, parents feel every bump and bruise in triplicate. And blood!? well I'll just pass out.

| Sorry your little one got hurt. If you do buy a trampoline, make sure you get the net around it. However, the net doesn't make it completely safe. I was working in the ER a while ago and a 60 year old grandmother came in with a broken finger from jumping on her grandkids trampoline and getting her finger caught in the net. She was a cool grandma. |

True trampoline story -- I have a friend who works for the local OB/GYN. She is the one who usually answers the phone, then "triages" the calls. One day a lady called and said, "I'm over 8 months pregnant. Is it okay if I jump on the trampoline with my kids." (And then there was the elderly lady (like mid-80's if I recall, correctly) who called because her husband "had found another hole down there" and she was alarmed.)
Sorry about your son's arm. No kidding about feeling every bump and bruise. My most helpless feelings are when my kids are sick or hurting. . .:( |

Ouchie. Poor guy. :( We went through quite a similar experience at the beginning of the summer. My 16 yo daredevil broke his left arm in 3 places doing a 540 off a ramp at the skatepark (aggressive inline skater). Forearms are not meant to be shaped like an "S".
I hope your little guy gets better quickly - make him do any therapy exercises he's given! |

Thanks all!
He is cheering up! Even tried out writing with the other hand.
Forearms shaped like an S are not meant to be, but seem surprisingly common.

EEK! EEK and EEK! about that hole...nah forget it...
though I do admit showing a girlfriend how to dive at the local swimming pool when I was 7 months pregnant (first pregnancy and smallest bub) no way I coul've climbed onto the blocks in subsequent pregnancies.
Sympathies to you Buzz!
