This one brought to mind the stages of grief described by Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross.

Not sure who this is addressed to. Hopefully you'll get more than this one. Your story is touching since my own brother is incarcerated too. This rhyme scheme is a bit odd, but that's how it came to me. I can modify it it's not what you were going for.
To Gary
History binds you.
Your freedom denied.
Time̢۪s passage must undo
The knot you have tied.
In recompense your flesh is locked
Behind the walls of concrete block.
Yet on an ethereal plane
The fibers of our souls entwine.
Society queries
With cautious concern.
From talking and writing
How much could I learn?
With perserverence love is locked.
I̢۪m well aware my choice is mocked.
Yet on an ethereal plane
The fibers of our souls entwine.
Our future does beckon
With promises strong
That we̢۪ll have forever.
Once two years have gone.

There is a respect for great and small things,
like music a bear, plays and sings.
Such an odd compliment as beer and wine,
as the pen and hand of a poets mind
So listen up and don't be slack,
for when poets speak the muse won't lack.
I truly have enjoyed my time,
I was simply bored and wanted to rhyme.
This has been an amazing chance
to see how words and pictures dance.
So many helpful thoughts exist
to thank each one, is an exhausting list
The two James that come to mind
no better poet or a musician you'll find
Artan and Diana have a limiric's pen
and Donna, we should hear from you again.
With all this said there is so much more
I will keep my thoughts a distant bore.
I will enjoy this thread with my fellow poets,
for I know my place and will always know it.
Jeff

Ian (Artan) just pm'ed me this poem for my zebra pic:
here are my word if you like them then please post if not, well I tried
.... Ian
Sister of the Unicorn,
a dancing wild and free,
behind your two tone mask,
what secrets shall there be.
Beautiful Arabian.
a dancing wild and free,
dressed for the masquerade,
what creature will we see.
Earthbound wingless Pegasus,
a dancing wild and free,
in your striped pyjamas,
please dance tonight for me.
Thank you! I really like it and think it is very fitting for this majestic creature!

Enough already.....
My plight, it was simple
I'm sure you will see
I chose the wrong picture
and found no words just from me
It sat on my monitor,
I only could stare.
The phrases I found were
from the "Book of Common Prayer"
But good news was heard,
from a quite different scene.
where Donna was working,
Her wit was still keen.
The fruits of her labor
with y'all I'll now share,
I'm glad she was able
to answer this dare.
For taterbug
Rusty Door
I remain hidden in seclusion
behind this tired old rusty
door.
As the days fall away I now
realize it̢۪s become my hearts
metaphor.
Unused and unbidden there̢۪s
no handle ‘nor steps for you
to explore.
No welcome extended, weeds
left to root, walls deeply
weathered, unworthy of restore.
Behind this door I cloak a great
sadness touched with a little
madness, so keep out and
trouble me no more.

time flies like a motionless bird
frozen in life's slow blur
when you're having fun
when you're having fun
earth's features merge
with tides and fur
and slate and feathers
flocculate together
worth every word
is one day brighter than another
darker yet infused with color
brighter than a standard
view of one another's character
glittery peristaltic slivers
stream through currents
but stay together
somewhere
somehow
going nowhere
but there it is
and was
and will be
if you will yourself
to be free
of frills and full of free
will you ever see
the moment pass
as if you never saw
a past or future dash away
a splash of spray from seas
and waves once grey
If you don't say
the magic is
and was
and will it to be
pray if that's your thing
or hope or wish or
trust each day won't bring
it's normal gifts on wings

"Wrinkles"
Stare into a mirror, reflect on the past
Sorrow and cheerful lines are casted.
Search the evidence of age on your face
See the telling lines, tears and smiles trace
Relive your youth an innocent time
revealing the truth of a distant prime
Remember the laughter of a well timed joke
Regard for the clamor of your heart as it broke
Think of the day, a dear loved one died
the way you carried on, yet suffered and cried
There was that moment when time stood still
the elegance of her beauty, a passionate thrill.
Look back at your life and have no regrets
for the love and strife no wrinkle forgets.

Thanks. I like "wrinkles" but don't have a good photo for it I don't think. I see we are posting poems looking for photos now! Good idea!
Makes me want to write some more...
love is like a lung abscess
infecting breath
i breathe for you alone
in some aspect
the death of one
each setting sun
was yours and mine
was dumb and blinded
by the light
upon a gust of air
fresh and midnight scented
nightlite too forget
your self it's late
2am or am i
wait one times
one is only one
plusses both
like kisses on a stolen porch
start shotgun weddings lit
by angry torches
burning a hearts apex
as acid reflux stressed
apart and together
we try to cry
unless we die before
we live a risk
remember this
kids don't kindle
they forgive
and bundle up
for winter nights
