First of all my Dead End photo was DQ'ed because the date on my photo was right, but the time was off. By hours my photo was taken on the 31st, and not on the 30th, as the exif data shows, but council didn't care and DQ'd it for it saying the 30th in my exif data. I guess they also believe I took the shot at one in the morning when it was clearly taken outside during the day? LOL...OH well, I will just be happy that it ended on an above average score for my first entry. NOW my date AND MY TIME are set correctly, so I will go on from here. LOL...

However, this also gives me a reason to openly explain my entry now. MANY didn't "get it". Mine was the "I see dead people" photo of the cat eyes? The title said "those figures/faces were not there! A dead end for only some"

What this means is that the figures of "people" in the photo were not there when I took the shot. In the right eye was an image of a woman standing at a banister. In the left eye that of a young boy could be seen wearing a hat, and you could also make out a face to the far left of the left eye (to your left, not the cats left eye). Anyway, when I took the shot, I was the only one crouched down in front of the cat. There were NO others around me. My husband and son were behind the cat and holding him for me.

Therefore, the photo was named "I see dead people". AND since being dead is supposed to be a dead end, then dead people shouldn't be able to be SEEN! LOL...SO it is a "dead end only for some", since some CAN be seen by some people or animals.

I guess the concept was confusing to some. Some got it, and said I really set the mood. Some loved my cat. Some thought it was amusing..LOL..and some didn't get it at all. So it was mixed, yet a nice display of comments all around.

Those that left comment, I thank you. And thank you to those that gave comment on the nice cat I have. It is a solid lilac Persian Show Cat. A very rare color for the breed. His name is "Magnum Opus Quixotic" (we call him Opey for short). He will be shown next year in Premeirship/Open Class. This year the show was cancelled due to Katrina.

Those that really admired the shot and my kitty may PM me or email me, and we can exchange cat stories and photos!!

Thanks again, and I am ok about it. Had it been up there winning, I would argue the point more, but it is of no matter. The rules state my camera should be set right, and it wasn't. I can't blame anyone but myself for that, so better luck next time I guess. To only be off by a few hours, even when I know it was taken on the right date, is a heartbreak; but at least it received good voting and good comments in its time, and for that I am greatful!

Well at least you didn't find out that your time was off when you take your ribbon winner.

Just to be clear, your photo was DQ'd the same as anyone else's where the date/time were not within the specified limits for the challenge. If the date/time is invalid, we have absolutely no way of knowing how far off they were (hours? days? months?) and thus no way of validating the photo.
Sorry you were DQ'd, but we must try to provide a level playing field, and this means always striving to apply the same rules in the same manner for everyone. We never LIKE to DQ anyone, and, BTW, we do "care."

kirbic, it is really of no matter either way. I am sure you have your reasons, and yes, I understand that it is the fact that my camera's time was not set correctly. I can have it DQ'd and not have a bad concious about it because a.) I knew I took it during the proper time line, and b.) Your rules are quite strict on having the camera set correctly. So it is my fault, but I can't force you to believe me, nor can I expect others to had it won. I was just DYING to explain the photo for the commentors, and I am glad that I got my chance to before the influx after the contest ended. As for caring, I don't know that for sure. LOL...I only know it cause you say so. I have no data to go by on that - yet.

Very true. Actually, I thought the exif data was lost on my photos after saving them from PSP. I didn't realize that under summary I have to hit "advanced" to see them. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know what exif data was until this month! LOL....

Hey, for my first entry, I am still elated with the scores I did get while it lasted. Now my garbage entry? THAT is another story. I'm not happy with a 4.000...LOL...but I find it hard to believe hardly anyone can see the garbage when it takes up more than a quarter of the photo! LOL....To each his or her own I guess. :(

FWIW, you could have taken your picture in a clock and calendar shop and it still would have been DQ'd. Whether or not we believe you isn't relevant. Camera dates are one of the few very strict rules we have, which is why there's a stern reminder in the rules to check your camera date.

You can still take comfort in a win over on Fotofight. ;-)

EDIT- actually, on Fotofight I see that YOU listed the date as 10/29, which would explain the daylight and still be outside the challenge dates.

Thanks for noticing!!! It did take 3rd for "Horror" theme at www.fotofight.com!! But the date on my exif data was only off because of the time. The time, had it been set right...LOL...would have said the 31st instead of the 30th. It was just a weird thing to occur, but I understand the need to have a level playing field. This is just one example that will surely make others know to check their equipment and adhere to the rules better. I thought the explaination along with the original photo would be enough, since surely one can see that the photo was taken in daylight, but I totally understand that even if you believe me, the exif data is still off, so hence the DQ by the rules. I understand.

Edited to add: I said the 29th!!? That must have been an error on my part. The only thing I can think of is if I went to click on the 30th and hit the 29th by mistake. I will have to go check on that there. Clearly the exif data says the 30th. I just checked it today. GOSH, I hope that I was within the timeline for the HORROR theme now! LOL...I had better go check! Well...LOL...such is the life of a newbie when I have just recently found and joined both sites and also just recently learned what exif data even IS! LOL....

Edited to add: WHEW!!!! I still fall in on the right submission dates for HORROR there! Submission dates: Oct 25 to Nov 1. Gosh, that was a scare and a half and a "horror" of my very own! LOL

Rose, I recently lost a ribbon fore the exact same thing; I'd mistakenly set my camera 12 hours off, and shot the photo at dawn 6 hrs after the challenge was announced. Happens to the best of us :-)
