Does any one have this problem. Somtimes it seems like my 20d wants to find another spot than I choose to focus on. I have got use to it but now I want to find out if sombody is having the same problem or had this problem. |

I get this frequently, but only when the background is lit much more than the subject. |

Most of the time, when I focus, I manually set the focusing point and it's almost always the center one :) but if I go with A-DEP then I turn all of them on ;)
Ain't 9 points a beaut? |

Autofocus works on contrast. If your selected autofocus point is centered on an area of no contrast whatsoever, it may refuse to focus and shoot. Reselect an autofocus point that it can fix on, or use the matrix autofocus, or focus manually. This happened to me doing some macro of a smooth object today; couldn't lock focus on the part I wanted to be my point-of-focus, so I switched to manual.
Also, the autofocus won't work, or won't work well, if the lens isn't bright enough. If you are using a teleconverter and can't find focus, this may be why, as the TC cuts the f/stop down significantly.

Yes I have the same issue. Also the shutter release sometimes is very slow, have to hold the button down for sometimes 1-3 seconds before it releases. Also on focus even on good contrast bright everytime I push half way the focus changes a little and resulting photos is a guess if it was the right focus or not. Shutter delay is even there when I use manual focus.
Canon suggested to only select center focus and not use the outer focus points. This was a quick fix but not the correct fix. Mine did it with both Canon L lenses as well as Sigma so not a lens problem.
Mine is now at Canon repair so we'll see if they can straighten it out. Hope so.
