What about those photogs in countries with no walmart, or no easy way to get a disposable camera back to the vendor to have the shots copied to CD within a week? It would be tough for some.

The cameras I'm talking about aren't disposable, they D/L to a computer just like your dSLR via USB. Also, I'd consider camera phones acceptible for such a challenge.

Cheap Camera

This is the one I ordered my 6 year old grandson for Christmas on Overstock.com. Good price right now.

I think my parents might have one at home...those cameras are so much fun :D I'm not sure if we still have it, but we had one that was about as big as a USB flash drive, could be hidden in the palm of your hand.

I see walmart has weveral 1Mp or less digital cameras for under $20. I will be getting one that looks most like a camera for my son this weekend. No flash like a jamCam 3.0, but hey, looks to the same otherwise. Staples has them too, same price.

So we can do a post-christmas new camera challenge - you have to have had the camera (any camera) for under 30 days to enter.

I got one for christmas, there is 2 different versions that look the same. One is a 100K thats the one i got and the max image size is like 352 X 288. The other one is a 300K and i think it does 640 X 480 wich is the one i wanted.

What about the jam cam? whats the pixel size on it?

I dont know wich would be better, one that uses 1 tripple A or one with a flash that uses a 9V. These really need good lighting, outdoor with the sun shinning good gets the best images. I think you can fill the memory about 3-4 times before a battery change. Being 1 AAA you can get a few changes to a pack. 9V seem to be a bit pricy just for 1

Here is one of the first images i took with it out the back window.

I found it kinda weird how it took a clear image of both the screen wich was about 12" away, AND the outdoor.

It can be a fun tinker camera, i love to tinker and i have already trying different things as "filters" I tried an old set of glasses and i even poped out the little viewfinder and covered the lense with it to see how the image would look. Both were failures but im sure ill run into somthing laying around that could give a neat effect.

I thought about using some printer paper rolled up to give it a wide angle linse HAHA! ill let ya know how it goes.

Its weird it needs the light to shine on the plastic dome section around the CCD. I took it apart and tried some shots without the case and they were all super dark. When i put the cover back on the color and brightness came back.

Update. This thing takes horrible pictures! And I would not suggest shopping at Overstock.com. Their customer service sucks.

As do many other aspects of their company, apparently.

I can sure agree with that. I ordered two expensive Swiss Army Knives and received two golf tools. I emailed them about the mistake and I got a reply saying I can send the items back and they will refund my money but that there is a $4.99 restocking fee for each item.

I wrote back to them that I didn't want a refund, that I wanted the items I ordered and that I would NOT pay a restocking fee because they made a mistake.

They wrote back that I could reorder the items but I had to reorder them that day because the offer ended the next day.

I wrote back that I did NOT want to reorder, that I wanted the items I already paid for and that I did not care if the offer ended, I wanted the items for the price I had already paid.

They wrote back that the items were no longer in stock and that in about two weeks they would send me a prepaid envelope to return the wrong items to them and about two more weeks the money would be refunded to my credit card.

I will definately not order from them again. I'll stick with Amazon.com :) They are great to deal with.

I used to buy those disposable film cameras. I would use them up then throw them away. Never got any pictures from them.

I bought the same one for my 5 year old this year and had to take it back the day after Christmas...the usb cable wouldn't work so I exchanged it for a 2.1 MP one thatwas $30-someodd and infintely better. The Scooby Doo cam I got my 6 year old is even better. Go figure.

I'm thinking of taking it back and getting a different one. I liked that this one looked a little more rugged than the others, but turns out this one sucks. It also doesn't have any exif data.

I thought the challenge was "Keychain cameras" 1.3 meg isnt keychain. :(
01/04/2006 01:44:56 AM · #47
I went to lowes and got a little nut thing and i used some shoe goo to attach it to the bottom of the camera. Got some clamp lights and a yard of backdrop. I attached the keychain camera to a tripod using the nut i glued on and snapped away. Its kinda hard not having a screen to know what your shooting but i filled the memory (18 images) and i got about 2-3 good ones from the whole roll :D

I think we should do this challenge its kinda fun. $15. for the keychain camera and 25 cents for the nut thing, everyone has tripods and lights right?

I got the same one. My son (age 5) is happy - he clicks away and i erase the pics...i save some for him to see. A jamcam is TONS better BTW.

Here is a collage of the better ones. He is learning to hold the camera still! Well, most of the time anyway.
