I'm going to Italy in May and plan to take alot of pictures. I won't be bringing my laptop. What is the best way to store my pictures until I get home. Should I just buy several compact flash cards or is there a better or less expensive way?

While I was on vacation over the summer, I had a 512mb and the stock 32mb with me. When the 512 was getting full I'd make plans to hit a camera shop in the next town. Most places (in Canada, mind you) offer services to dump from a memory card to a CD for $5 or so.

With storage media getting cheaper, you may want to buy a couple of extra CF cards but failing that, just check online to make sure that the towns you are visiting have shops which would offer this service (or that you will be staying with someone who has a computer and CD burner).

I haven't heard of that one. I know I could buy an Ipod to store photos but that seems kind of pricey and I think it stores pictures in JPEG which means I would be losing the EXIF data so I wouldn't be able to use any pictures in a DP challenge.

I've heard great things about it. You can copy straight from CF or SD cards, and has a 4" display to you can go through them also.

I have also heard that transfering photos to an iPOD takes a long time and kills the battery. But it does double duty as a nice mp3 player...

Also, how much storage (in memory cards) do you have?

That makes alot of sense and seems very cost efficient. A 2 gig. memory card is about $120 vs. $499 for the epson which is 40 gig. I have a 1 gig. microdrive right now which will hold about 270 pictures at a time.

I use the 60GB iPod Photo... I love it... I can hold years worth of music and weeks worth of photos... i carry a compact flash reader along as well, and the iPod can read that, so it doesn't run down my camera battery...

Try looking at the Coolwalker. I know it's from Nikon but don't be afraid.
