Anyone into poetry?

I used to write poetry all the time, but I think I threw them away. Most of it was from my depressive teenage stage, and it's viral. I could make anyone I knew unhappy as I was just by having them read one.

I don't write it, but I love to read it.

is there a particular reason that you asked?

Yes I write poetry but I am unsure what type you are chasing.

Roses are red, violets are blue,
Interesting question posed here by you.
Not into poetry, nope not for me.
Just like to rhyme, as you can plainly see.

Spend night after night, reading Cat in the Hat,
My kids simply love it, imagine that.
I, however, now have an affliction,
Can't stop writing in this crazy diction.

Need to stop now, this is getting stupid.
Kids are almost asleep, time to play cupid!
My wife's looking sexy, in her sweats and slippers,
It's SATURDAY NIGHT! Goodbye friend photographers!

Hey Jeff, you have my permission to post my pic if it grabs you. Being sorta nebulous so you can make the call...

hmm, think you lost it at the end there. Both 12 syllables, but it still didn't flow.

I always like free verse anyways.
never knew when something
would hit me in the
head churning with ideas and
images float around without a home.

but words still live.

Not a poet, as I mentioned
Meter not really matter, had good intentions
Wife's out of the shower now, gotta go
You know where you can stick your "flow"

Smiles. :-)

Just wondering who is burning the candle at both ends

Same here, I always wrote very dark and depressing stuff. No longer a depressed teen but still write the same stuff.

Mac's rhymes are tight, his meter off beat,
Thoughts wandered elsewhere, poetry incomplete.
Saturday dreams, long kept on the shelf,
what you do with your wifey, keep to yourself!

"My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends--
It gives a lovely light!"

"First Fig" by Edna St. Vincent Millay

We have speech contests back in my hometown. You start in 3rd grade and have to do one each year up until the 9th grade. Third and fourth grade you could memorize a story, poem, etc. I remember parts of the one I did....but don't recall the title or the ending part.

Slowly, silently, now the moon
walks the night in her silver shoon
this way and that she peers and sees
silver fruit, upon silver trees.

One by one the casements catch
her beams beneath the silvery thatch

that's all I remember though :/

Silver

Slowly, silently, now the moon
Walks the night in her silver shoon;
This way, and that, she peers, and sees
Silver fruit upon silver trees;
One by one the casements catch
Her beams beneath the silvery thatch;
Couched in his kennel, like a log,
With paws of silver sleeps the dog;
From their shadowy coat the white breasts peep
Of doves in a silver-feathered sleep;
A harvest mouse goes scampering by,
With silver claws, and silver eye;
And moveless fish in the water gleam,
By silver reeds in a silver stream.

I still remember a poem I wrote when I was 8

If you go through like happily
as the days and years go by
then at the end of your lifetime
you'll lie down happily and die

lol.. I thought it was very deep at the time. Hmmm come to think of it, thats still pretty much my philosophy

I went on to write better stuff but haven't written a poem in years now.

I've written some poetry
and a limerick or two
...
sorry for the pause
I was having deja vu

I thought it would be interesting to have a photo posted and see how many different poems could be written.
