Ok thought of another one (I'm more than slightly drunk after a very good evening quaffing great wines at a friends, so please excuse any typos)

I hate it when someone says proply rather than propERly!

:))
How do you do a drunk emoticon?

No... actually it's "fixin' to"

As immortalized in Country Joe McDonald's I Feel Like I'm Fixin' To Die Rag (usually preceeded by the infamous "FISH" Cheer)

A few of mine:

"supposably" instead of "supposedly"
LOLOL... If LOL is "Laughing Out Loud," then what's LOLOL?
coupons pronounced as "Q-pons." There's no Q in the word!
And anyone from Philadelphia will understand this one: THERE ARE ONLY TWO SYLLABLES IN ACME!

Songwriters use it to rhyme:
Just between YOU AND I...

What a way to mis-educate.

Got another one - fax for facts! And children's programmes on tv or in magazines etc that spell words incorrectly for effect like "kidz" I have spent years trying to get children to spell correctly and they can undo it all in 1/2 an hour!

Worth posting again:

For example, in Year 1 that useless letter "c" would be dropped to be replased either by "k" or "s", and likewise "x" would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which "c" would be retained would be the "ch" formation, which will be dealt with later. Year 2 might reform "w" spelling, so that "which" and "one" would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish "y" replasing it with "i" and Iear 4 might fiks the "g
j" anomali wonse and for all.

Jenerally, then, the improvement would kontinue iear bai iear with Iear 5 doing awai with useless double konsonants, and Iears 6-12 or so modifaiing vowlz and the rimeining voist and unvoist konsonants. Bai Iear 15 or sou, it wud fainali bi posibl tu meik ius ov thi ridandant letez "c", "y" and "x" -- bai now jast a memori in the maindz ov ould doderez -- tu riplais "ch", "sh", and "th" rispektivli.

Fainali, xen, aafte sam 20 iers ov orxogrefkl riform, wi wud
hev a lojikl, kohirnt speling in ius xrewawt xe Ingliy-spiking werld.

Just saw this one, hadn't realized it had so many responses. Good to see :-)

"For gods' sakes" and "For God's sake" are both wrong, though; it's "oh, fer gawdsake!"

No. You're trying to express your complete disinterest. You mean you couldn't care less.

Saying you could care less is saying you do care now.

Sheesh!

This is mine too! And the thing is, so few people use it correctly. I hear "could" a lot more often then "couldn't." Argh!!

This entire thread is entirely stupid irregardless of all intensive purposes. There is no point to the whole thing, just a bunch of cry-baby complaining. I dont want no more of this crying I'm telling you all, there's a place for it and it's not here. Its really driving me insane. I mean seriously, I could care less what you all think. For god's sakes, give it a rest.

Maybe I can luck out and this will all be gone off the main page in another hour or two, I guess I'll try back then. I mean heck the five minutes I spent reading all this, I could of found something better to do. I could take some picture, I mean I do that good. I guess I'll try and come back later...whether you will all still be complaining, I don't know, I guess the proof is in the pudding, and we'll see then. :D Did I miss any?

Deapee: You had me at "This"--I love it! :) ROFL

I can't stand it when people mispronounce the word 'mischievous' and say mis CHEEV E us. Arrrrgh! It's pronounced mis che vous. Just like when you say mischief, but add an 'ous' at the end and substitute a v for the f. As a broadcasting major, pronunciation was key and I worked as speech lab tester for 2 years, grading freshmen on speech and pronunciation tests. That one just flew all over me!

Another is saying ath u lete for athlete. It's two syllables I say...TWO!

I'll second that!
Perhaps here and now is a good time to point out that the "ve" part of "could've" does NOT stand for 'OF', but is short for 'HAVE'.
It is: COULD HAVE...... SHOULD HAVE...... WOULD HAVE

I feel so much better now :-)

Along those lines, how about people who pronounce it "MOD-ren" instead of "MOD-ern"?

How about this one “A mans just got to know his limitations.” And they credit Dirty Harry?

It was William Shakespeare who wrote those words hundreds of years ago..

Let me axe yous guys a question...
Doesn't it bug you when people misplace or mix S's in the plural or the possesive?

Mike Tyson was a true Master with this creative way to use the english language.

I heard this gem of a sentence just last week...

"...I was in Doris offices last Friday and I hads to do the payroll over agains three time..."

The latest "gem" I've had the pleasure of hearing/reading has got to be the lyrics to the song "Grillz" by Nelly. Ugh...we wonder why kids can't spell in school today, much less speak coherently. You can read the lyrics for yourself if you feel like trying to decipher them. :)
