I am pretty happy wirh my recent purchase. I got it in China for $178 though I saw it in Hong Kong sold for $138.
The lens are a little heavy for my 350D and I encounter a lot of hand shaking. I have to shot at high speeds to get some decent results.
Over all I am happy with it and I'll post some macros I took yesterday, shot at
ISO 400, F 9, 1/800, Focal Lenght 300mm
Post process
Levels/curves
Hue/Sat increased a little
USM (after resize) 130/0.8/0
Nothing extrordinary but not bad for first shots with it (IMO LOL)

It really is an outstanding lens. At the 300mm end you need to use a tripod and MLU whenever possible for the sharpest photos, but overall its not too hard to handhold.

Nice shots! Did you get the APO version?
You motivated me to go take a shot or two. I got a Tamron 24-135 that has macro capability, so the test was on. My wife found a dead, petrified praying mantis a few days ago, so i had a ready subject. Woody assited me, and as i had my strobes all set up...
These are 100% crops, USM 80%, .8, 1 was the only PP done.

The Sigma at 214 mm, ISO 400, 1/160 f14. Handheld (strobes help)

Tamron at 135mm, ISO 400, 1/160 f10 also handheld. You can get a LOT closer with this lens.

I got the APO.
But I DON'T HAVE A TRIPOD yet.
Hehe. And I hit 6000 views on my profile...

If they would add OS (optical Stabilizer) in this lens I would sell my 80-400mm in a heart beat!!

Thanks for the comparison.
Is is there any diff between your lens and mine? Mine has the DG? I guess not. No wonder there were only 16 users fo my type of lens.

Nice Macros. Can you guys post any other techniques used in these photos. How many outtakes did you have before you got the "great" one?

I'm trying Macro and need all the help I can get.

See my portfolio...

Thanks,
