Maybe I'm nagging about this, but I really thought this one would do better. What could I improve in this photo? Is it too much "outside the box", could the technique be better? Please help me out, cause I don't understand.. |

You finished 33rd with 4 favorites. That's pretty good for a pregnant nude wrapped in saran wrap...
Seriously. Good job. I don't think you could expect any better, given the saran wrap/plastic stuff, which (as you correctly surmised) is a little off-the-wall to ribbon in this place.

33rd place is not a bad place to be in. With that said, this image isn't too out of the box for me. I think what happened here is that there are some edges that are blown out. Then again, this is what you sometimes would expect in this kind of challenge.
33 is a good place. Care to trade spots? |

don't get me wrong, I really love the 4 faves, really do!
Maybe in the next challenge I won't be creative and shoot away.. |

A ranking of 33/271 is quite respectable.
Although, if anything, you may have fell victom of the fly-by voters -- had to look at it a while to realize what it was.

If you lose the creativity, then you'll probably slowly lose the passion for photography. |

I know, 33 is respectable, but I really thought this one could do better IMO.
ok the blown out edges are there, but I thougt it was something that would fit this photo

I think it was a great idea, and photographed well.
I like the way the wrap it is extending to the viewers right. I think it would be better, personally, if the saran wrap were smoother and perhaps thinner in layers. That may have been hard to do--I certainly can never get it on my leftovers and still looking good!
Did you get any shots with less saran wrap? You might also try smoothing it out a bit in postprocessing (unless of course, you are personally completely happy with it, in which case, I wouldn't change a thing, because that's what counts most.

Hasn't stopped me. Look at my averagte, 5.3ish. I regularly finish in the mid-to-low 5's and i could easily change that by going for the tried-and-true like many of our members do. But I have fun doing different stuff, and i don't sweat the scores much.

biteme, I think you are still just too new to this site to understand :-D
For the record, I had your photo as one of the top 3.
This same kind of questioning has gone on for the almost 4 years I have been around here.
You have to make a decision, are you here to meet your expectations or others?
I like Van Halen, The Beatles, and The Fairfield Four. I bet more people like Van Halen and The Beatles than the Fairfield Four but The Fairfield Four are pretty freakin awesome.
Try em out...

They might not score above a 5 here >:-D |

I was thinking you would need to go the other way -- get more creative. :) In this shot the wrap competes with, and in ways overcomes, the model as being the main subject. Being more creative with the pose might have brought the emphasis back to the model.
my 2¢.

OK, my reality check is always asking if I would want this hanging on a wall in my house. Would I? Not really. It's creative, but creativity needs to be controlled with a driving force. What is the underlying purpose of this picture? What is the saran telling us? Why is it there?
I didn't vote this challenge, so I can't give you a score, but had I voted it would have been in the 5-6 range and so I think you scored well. |

Interesting. Can I get a 20x30 print of this framed for my bathroom?

Ha, good one kpriest. This one goes more in the creepy cellar, or in this guy's friend's TV room...
"For me, this is a disturbing photo, but I'll show it to a co-worker as he loves this kind of stuff..."
I didn't say it had to be beautiful. I said it had to be purposeful...

Personally I think it's the nature of this site. I think it actaully scored very well for a challenge that was viewed so differently by so many people. You did think outside of the box. Congrats |

@ rikki11 & bear_music: I know, I would never ever NOT use any of my creativity because that's what's inside of me. I'd rather shoot a creative one instead of one that's technically ok. I'm still in a big learning process.
@ nshapiro: I'm totally fine with this photo, so I don't think i'd make it better for myself with postprocessing. I didn't have the chance to work with less wrap, we only had one hour to use the studio, and did some more other stuff. We also had to get used to the studio work, because it was all kind of new. I do think you're right about the thinner / smoother part, maybe next time I could try that. Thanx!
@ hokie: I think you're right.
Originally posted by hokie: You have to make a decision, are you here to meet your expectations or others? |
It's better to meet every expectation, but there are too many people to serve ;) anyway, I think my own expectation comes first, and I could never expect me to make a photo like this. It was my first time in a studio, I was really thrilled about the results. That's a thing I won't forget.
@ David: Lots of people, different opinions. I'm happy with your comment, really! When I can re-shoot this idea (who knows who gets pregnant again ;)) I'll check out if I can be more creative with the pose.
@ DrAchoo:

The plastic warp was a symbol of protection. The little baby's still have to be with their mother for 3 weeks. I thought this would be clear in the photo without a description, but I guess it's not. Thanx for your comment!
@ Rebelgirl: thank you :)
Please don't mind me I started nagging about this, but I'm still trying to understand people's choices on this site... i think I have tips for the next time, and that's what it was all about.

It's probably because of me. My highest scoring images, and the pics that I fall in love with immediatly never get into the top 20. There's like a DPC law against it.
