Saving photos for uploading to websites. The only way I have ever done this in Photoshop is "save as for web" Any other way I save it doesnt work. But when I save as for web, it butchers my colors. They come out really unsaturated.

How do you guys save, and what kind of advice can you offer me. thanks.

Thing is what I do for saving for web:

Save as - jpg - max size
(I always crop my images to 700px width & 467px height)

I have done it several ways...
First, make sure you are in the right color space / mode.
RGB, 8 bits/channel and sRGB color space. The one here that you will encounter is the RGB one. It cam be lots of things, but most will be altered when viewed on the web.

I edit, usually flatten, and then resize to 800x or 640x (on the long side, be it portrait or horizontal). Then do a USM to it (with my rebel 80%, .9, 1 or thereabouts. My fuji was completely different). You need to sharpen for web use, and it needs to be the last step.

Then either Save As and pick a compression above 8 that gives you the file size you want. If you have to go below 8, then try making the pics smaller or adjuting your USM as that can have a big effect on file size.

Save For Web then click on teh arrow to the right of the drop down box 'Settings' and choose 'Optiize to file size'. For DPC challenges enter 147k. Click Save and that does it.

Given that you're studying at Ringling (I'll assume that's a spelling error in your profile), you're probably using a Mac. Before you do any editing in Photoshop, go to View> Proof Setup> Monitor RGB. Save for Web (and uploaded challenge photos) will now match what you see in Photoshop.

I just found a little trick the other day and it's under the view menu. click on proof setup and click monitor RGB. that will show you the colors you will get when you save for web...
