Do any professional photographers use Neat Image to fix up photos? For the past year, I've heard the words "Neat Image" pop up all over the place, but I had never tried using it until the other day. The results were great. But I have to admit, it almost felt like I was cheating. I use Photoshop all the time to make adjustments...and I've never felt "guilty," but for some reason the added smoothness that Neat Image provides almost made me feel like I was cheating! I guess I shouldn't feel that way, but I do. Is it used professionally? Is there anything wrong with using it professionally? How many ribbon winners out there have used Neat Image in your ribbon winning pictures?

It's just a filter like any other filter. Personallly I prefer Noise Ninja, it produces less of that "plastic" look that Neatimage produces. |

Do not feel guilty. If any tool available allows the photographer to convey the purpose of the image, then by all means use it. Not cheating. It is cheating if it is a)illegal or b)available only to you and no one else.
I believe with careful execution you can use blur to accomplish the softer look anyway, without Neat Image. In my ribbon winners, I used Neat Image only slightly in "The Foyer" because of a higher ISO, but the other three I did not use it. A noisy image conveyed perfectly will always be better than a glossed over crappy picture. So shoot the best you got and use digital editing to master it.

I'm starting to learn to pick out neat image and when I see a before and after... I always prefer the before. Real life speaks to me.. I want to see people's reality and not the plastic perfection that so much of society seems stuck on. Having said that.. I do see how in some instances its a wonderful tool.. I still prefer to see the uneven skin tones and odd blemish here n there tho.. keeps me feeling connected ;)
Jes sharin' my opinion as a ~twirly girl~

I like the plastic look that neatimage produces. Makes my Sony sensor shots less film like and more Canon like. ;)
