I have the SB800 and love it. Been thinking of getting an
SB600 since the 800 can master the 600. You will love it and find that it is very versatile and powerful. A great match for the D70. |

Actually, I was just about to ask the same ?. The sb-600 costs alot less than the sb-800. I'm just wondering if I would need everthing on the 800. I have old sb-24 from my n-8008s that works but only in manual mode. That seems to have alot of the same features as the 800. Most of which I never really used. Is there another flash that will work with the ttl of the D70? |

only 800 and 600 work with ttl of d70. but if u dont need the ttl (and u shouldnt anyways unless u use the flash on the fly a lot) then you have sooo many options. |

The SB600 is fine. Powerful and easy to use.
It can also be used away from the camera, using the internal flash as commander (with TTL exposure control, not just a dumb slave).

I use the SB600 and it is fine. The wireless functionality is like magic and I have not had a need for something more powerful. I do hope to get an SB800 in addition some day though - I'm just waiting for the price to come down. |

I have a SB600 and use it with with a Sto-fen Omni-Bounce Diffuser and I'm pretty happy with it. It would be nice to have the SB800 because it is more powerful and has more features, but I can do without them. |

I just got the SB800 a week ago and it is brilliant! I also used my old sb24 on auto, and the new one is so cool. It is more powerful than the 24, it is ttl compatible with my old F801s (N8008s), and can be controlled remotely from the D70 built-in flash. The head also zooms to 105mm while my old one only went to 85mm. It also has a red-eye reduction feature that the sb24 did not have. I have read that it can be operated at a higher sync speed than the camera's maximum, but I have not tried this yet. Anyway, I love it, SB800 rules for me! |

So, AZRIFEL, you're saying that I can use the 600 as remote slave off of the built in flash, sweat. |

I purposely choose the SB600 over the SB800 and have no regrets. When mated with my Nikkor 24-85 f/2.8-4 lens, it works seemlessly. The focal lengths are perfect matches.

I have the SB 800 and the SB600 - for a single flash unit I think the 600 works great!
My major gripe is they both have different interfaces - so I'm always pulling a manual out (or a quick reference card now) to figure out which is which, or to remember how to do what I remember on the 800 on the 600 -
But back to the thread - you'll love the 600
