Does anonymity matter to anyone? I stumbled upon an image on a members personal web site which you would probably recognize from this weeks off center challenge. For me, it's a little disappointing - a spoiler.

Well you posting the picture here is worse of an idea... You are allowed to upload your pics anywhere you want during the challenge.
Blatantly posting a link to someone elses shot during the challenge is pretty wrong.

Ok, I'll keep it generic. The question still stands.

He probably shouldn't have uploaded it where it could be seen until after the challenge was over, but it's not that big a deal. He probably figured nobody would notice, and if they did by some miracle, that the person wouldn't post a link to it. :)

Oh good job, I just noticed you removed the link. Problem solved.

People post photos to their own sites all the time, both during and after the challenge, for a variety of reasons. There is certainly no restriction on that which is either possible or necessary.

As long as they don't post a link in the forums in an attempt to influence voting, there is nothing at all wrong with it, unless it shows that the photo was taken outside of the challenge time restrictions. Then just request a DQ and move on.

Does it really matter!!!! Come on guys stop complaining. It is just for fun. Not like we are going to jail for it. I don't mind where people post their pictures and when. It is their picture. Let it go. I upload mine to show family but you shouldn't beable to see it unless you really hunt it down. :-)

I generally don't like to know whose photo is whose before the voting ends either but think of the number of people who repeatedly take pictures of the same children/models/etc, which, for me, has the same effect as posting it on a website, and that's not illegal or even really frowned upon so this probably shouldn't be treated much differently.

I've seen photos that have been featured prints (DPCPrints) while the challenge was going on....
I DO think there should be a rule about that! It is too easy to stumble into the print section since it is a part of this site.

Now I know it was mine that was found... The 'featured print' was mine in the past too... That was a 'bug' in the system and not my fault unfortunately.

No one 'stumbled' across my pbase gallery photo because they would have had to hunt it out. I don't provide links to my pbase folder from dpchallenge.

It doesn't really matter to me anyway. I post my photos anywhere I like because DPC is not my sole purpose in photography.

I'm not sorry if i 'offended' anyone by doing this.

If it's not fixed, you could hold off making the printable file available for sale until the challenge has ended. But I agree, the whole thing is NBD unless someone's deliberately trying to influence voting.

It was a bug in the system and I'm assuming it has been fixed... I'm not sure...

It simply doesn't matter to me :)

Whenever a dp challenge shot is suitable for other sites -- my own galleries, or other competition sites -- I submit it straight away. I frankly can't understand why I wouldn't. If there was an exclusivity rule, I would follow it, but there isn't and so I don't.

My only suggestion is that jerrft restrict his photo viewing to this site. In that way, he'll only see the images he wants to.

One of my challenge entries won a POTD today at another site. I entered it because it is a good image. It's been so long since I've won a POTD that I didn't think it would be an issue. I was very surprised to see it win on its first day of entry to another site. I felt bad that others may see it and recognize it from the challenge, but hey, a POTD is a POTD!!
Hope I win a prize at that other site!

I had the same thing happen to me during the Childhood Without Children challenge. I'd submitted so many times trying to get a potd. Then, just so happened that the only time I submitted a shot similar to my challenge shot, it was picked for potd. All day long I wished people didn't see it...but they did. I only got GOOD emails about it though. And it still left me with a nice feeling.

I really don't see any offense here. The anonimity serves only to those who wouldn't vote fairly would they know who is the author.

smellyfish: congrats on your potd!!
