Which of these is better/sharper?
Canon 100mm macro or the Sigma 105 for macro? |

everyone who owns the canon will say the canon and everyone that owns the sigma will say the sigma. Both are good lenses,, I say flip a coin will be as good or better than anyones opinion.

never tried the canon 100mm but the sigma 105mm is awesome!

You may want to check out the new Tokina 100 macro. Popular Photography rates it very high and wonders why you'd pay more for a Canon or a Nikon.
Unless you prefer Canons only, I'd get the Tokina, for only $399, which includes a hood as well.

Hmmm, looks like I need to try to find a bunch of reviews. I just want to make sure it's built well & takes sharp pictures. |

The sigma 105 is definitely a fine lens. The canon 100 has a few advantages... It has the USM so it's autofocus is smoother, faster, and a little quieter than the sigma. The Canon also has internal focusing so there are no extensions and retractions of the lens length during focus. |

See my post in this thread. I feel the Canon is a better value, despite the slightly higher cost.
