....with 2 6 week old baby boys (not twins, cousins born 5 days apart). From what I'm told one is brunette, one red hair. I've never shot babies that young before, but I'm soooooooo excited! I bought a few studio props today and looked at baby photography sites for hours today for ideas. Told the moms to feed babies just before coming so hopefully they'll be sleepy.
I'm nervous. What have I forgotten? What should I know that I haven't even thought of?

Ive never done babies that young so wouldnt know what to suggest other than soft pastels and fluffy whites look good with babies. Good luck and most of all have fun with the little cuties...:)

Just show them your shoes, you'll do fine :)
I have no real help, just good luck to offer. Have fun!
And I hope the new props are Lexi-friendly for future challenges... |

I don't know if you have ever been around baby boys, but be prepared... if you do any of those cute nudie baby pics, as soon as you remove the diaper it's fountain city. Just have supplies handy. After raising three boys, it's just one little tidbit I've learned. ;)

Ack! I raised daughters! Forgot that detail. Will dash out for wet wipes before the shoot tomorrow! lol
I have little "pea in a pod" matching costumes for one shot
a white faux fur for nakie shots
white flannel for a wrapped up look (snuggled)
and really really thin white sheer fabric for an attempt at an Anne Geddes idea. Hoping to do well with this one.
I heard about the two new babies from a neighbor (its a relative) and because I want to shoot them (they didn't find me), I offered to give them a free set of proofs of the entire shoot for the trouble of bringing the babies. If they want prints, they buy from me. If all works right, they will LOVE every shot and I'll make back the cost of props in prints and then some.
Thanks for the good wishes!

Bring tons 'o patience. One of my favorite shots took about an hour to pose ... getting him undressed, relaxed, and posed was very time consuming.
A few others are:
Sorry, I'm a new father and get a little carried away sometimes.

Babies will be here in just over 2 hours. Gotta grab a shower and make last minute prep in the studio. I'll (hopefully) be back to share some wonderful images in a few hours.
Thanks for the good wishes guys!

I had my first baby shoot a couple of weeks ago and it was a bit of a disaster. He was only four weeks old and the parents wanted him awake for the shots so we had to wake him, and boy was he unhappy about that.
I spent about 45 mins and got maybe 4-5 shots that were okay, but still not as good as I'd have liked (although the parents were delighted so I guess thats what counts).
The best tip I can give is to be ready to snap the shots off because you can't rely on the baby to play ball. Try not to get too flustered when they start crying, I was rattled and worried that I wasn't getting anything and I think this made me panic and not put as much thought into the shoot as I would of liked.
Here's a shot

I think 6 week old babies all look the same anyway. Might as well just find some stock photos and give them these, they won't even notice. |

It's been more than a couple of hours, hopefully it wasn't fountain city.
Perhaps it's time for an idnic search party.

Sheesh impatience! lol I shot over 300, so sorting and processing is going slowly, but here's some first picks. It went amazingly well. couple of shots I wish I could re-take, but I'm still very happy overall.
Slower, more deliberate processing will be done on next pass, this is fairly down & dirty.

Sweet, sweet, sweet! I adore the peas in pods! That was clever of you to think of getting those outfits. Can't wait 'til you get 'em all done and post 'em somewhere for us to see.
