City Shapes ... I really like this one, but couldn't put in words why. Just wanted to see what the overall opinion is of that one ... a keeper? Or just a waste of pixels? What would you change?

Hello Franziska,
I agree, this is a very appealing shot. I like the fact that you used black and white, and I like the off-kilter angle.
The reason it is so appealing ot me is the geometric shapes and the contrast. I'd keep it...

Keeper definitely - unless hard drive space is really at a premium. I really like the composition and for me the lamp looks like an eyeball and gives it a "war of the worlds" feel. |

I like the uneven balance between the light and dark backgrounds, with the way you've composed it giving equal weight to the upper light sky and lower dark building, with the slightly diagonal jagged line breaking that up.
The architectural lines all lead up to the light, which breaks things up nicely, giving an interesting yin-yang type feel to the overal result, particuarly when considered with the lighter spaces in the building, that reinforce things - the contrast between the concentric circles and the angular lines also generates interest and tension.
I like it from a shapes and lines perspective but come away feeling largely unmoved. Its nice and all, but maybe not strong enough to stand alone but would feel good as a part of a series of similar images ? |
