Perhaps the recent influx of concerns about the lack of challenge votes is that as I understand it(and that being said,I am very new around here)each member must vote on at least 20% of entries. With almost 600 entries in some previous challenges, that is a fair chunk out of your busy day. Please correct me if I am wrong.

You only have to vote on 20% of the entries in a given challenge for your votes to count. You don't have to vote on any and you can choose which challenges, if any, you want to vote on. Hope that answers.

Hi Rick, and welcome to DPChallenge.

As Ken mentioned, the 20% voting requirement required only to have your votes count. While we certainly encourage you to vote, you do not need to vote to be able to enter challenges or to do anything else.

Without such a requirement in place, it would be a simple matter for users to enter a challenge, then post their entry on their weblogs or on other sites, and encourage their friends to sign up and vote. This would essentially make the challenges a popularity contest. The 20% voting requirement acts as a barrier to ballot-stuffing and is one tool we use to ensure the challenge results are meaningful.

Thanks but I would like to vote on all challenges(time permitting)However, some are too large to vote on 20%Not just for me but for others too I am sure.Just saying that maybe the reason for a drop in votes of late.Just a thought. Thanks for the prompt response KPriest.

It's so people are going through and just picking their favorite entries, voting those, and then ignoring everyone else. It helps keep the voting a little more fair and random.

Voting can take a lot of time, and honestly I rarely do more than 20-30% myself, but you have to give to this site to get back from it. It's fair to have to vote for more that just a few if you're voting at all.

I'm glad you enjoy the site!

I understand very well that it's hard to vote on some of the larger challenges, and you may have an easier time doing so in smaller batches. In a 600-entry challenge, for example, you need to vote on 120 entries to have your votes count. If you spread this over 5 days, that's only 24 votes per day -- few enough that you can not only vote on the entries, but comment on them as well. I recommend commenting on as many entries as you can. There's a lot to learn from the commenting process.

You'll probably also find that with the recent introduction of the Exclusive Open challenges (2 challenges per week, but you can only enter one), the number of entries per challenge has become a bit more manageable.

As to your question on the postal address for checks: I don't have that address, but if you submit an Administrative Inquiry via the Contact Page, the admins should be able to get you that information.

I don't know - it wouldn't work well for me - I only have 2 friends but I imagine people would do it.

When I started, I was deadset on voting 100% on every challenge and commenting on at least 20% of every challenge. (I had no idea what kind of time commitment that entailed...) There've been several "comment on 100% of the entries" challenges I've participated in as well (for very low quantity entry challenges), but I have had to start skipping some challenges and just comment as much as I can (given the time I have). When I vote, I still try to vote 100% of the entries, but lately I admit I've had several where I've only voted on 30-60%. The way the random image selection voting is set up, it's just about as fair as it can be.

Turquoise919's comment is really true though - you get outta this site what you put into it. So the more time you spend here, the better you'll get (at least I think). :-)

Good luck!

I suspect this maybe a little off- thread but is there a travel notice board here.if DP Challenge people are travelling to Southern China we would only be too happy to assist in anyway we can. It's a great part of the world.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but how much more time is consumed by clicking through entries slideshow style and recording your judgment as a vote, over squinting at thumbnails of all the entries and selectively voting on some images that meet a particular criteria?

Also, would someone explain why you would only want to vote on selected entries. Winners are determined by the highest average score. If people vote selectively the end result would only be raising (or lowering) the overall score of all entries.

Yeah Jammur I hear you but here in the deepest darkest PRC you can wait 4-5mins for an image.I like to look at an image for at least 2 mins before I score. At least! As I hope others would do for mine.Thay's all.Father Time my friend.
