Hello all- I am in Southern Michigan. I am planning a trip to Northwestern Maine come spring time. The two people that had originally been the catalyst to organize a trip to this area have since backed out. I am primarily planning a trip to the Big Black River area of Aroostook County (at the confluence of the Big Black River and Depot Stream) If you wanted to see it all on a map look up Clayton Lake, ME and St-Pamphile,Quebec, Canada. We were originally planning on late Feb. but when the outfitter told us that it was often 40-50 below zero during those months, we decided that spring would be more fun and less work. The plan that I was making was to spend 3 days in camp at a small cabin and then do a nice easy float trip down the Big Black and probably some of Upper St. Johns Rivers, then return to the camp for a few more days? I am open to scheduling from a week to two weeks. There is likely to be some bear, just waking up by that time, moose, bald eagle, deer, maybe some osprey, and lots of small game to photograph also. I am figuring this trip at about $350 based on 4 people going. That includes only the cost of the outfitter, the cabin rental from the outfitter, and some local transportation 'safari trips' with time and weather permitting. If there is any interest please let me know ASAP. If you'd like to contact me via phone please send and email with you phone number or a request for mine. As far as getting there: You could either fly in and get picked up or rent a car. The other option would be that I am leaving from Michigan and driving there- anybody along the way- I would be more than happy to stop and pick you up. I have a SuperCrew Ford truck so there is plenty of room. |
