Today we had an employee meeting in which they told us our restraunt would be closing.I've been a server there off and on for ten years, I was there to open it and now I've seen it close. Financially I don't know what to do, especially since I also help support my mom. The restraunt closed during the meeting and will not reopen- no advance warning, nothing. Just told on tuesday we had a meeting today and this morning told that we'd be closed for the meeting, then at the meeting told that we were closed for good. We are offered jobs at others stores, but no guarentee where or what position. We also are not eligible for unemployment because they made this offer to us. We did recieve a weeks severns pay today at our hourly rate, now figure I'm a server, my hourly is $2.38, so I got a check for $106.00 . I'm so totally depressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry just needed to get some of this out

Sorry to hear that, :(
I really feel for ya, I've been laid off 3 times since 1999, so I know where you're at. Keep your head up. Look at this as a forcible chance to get a better job :0)

I am soooo sorry you lost your job. I have been very lucky. Haven't had to face that. I agree that when God closes a door He opens a window somewhere. I will pray for you, and know that you will be taken care of. Have faith, hang in there, and keep your eyes open for any little thing God may send you, even if it seems strange at the time.

Feel for ya... I had a company I helped start go under after about 11 years (most of which were very good, our product having one many awards). What I remember most was feeling scared about a marketplace that could just suddenly "drop" a whole company like that.
Hang in there. Things will turn around. Who knows, maybe now is the time to get into the photography business... put your talents to good use! :-)

Sorry to hear that... it can sometimes be difficult at first but you will perservere...there is a better job out there with your name on it.
Side note: There is something fishy about that unemployment thing... Most companies like to overlook (omit) or steer former employees as far away from UE as possible when discussing layoffs... I don't think the way you decsribed it would fly here in Cali... |

That sucks. Sorry to hear it too. What about school? Can you get some kind of unemployment benefit to do post secondary education? Here in Canada there are programs geared towards individuals such as yourself who have been displaced or laid off. Ask around you might find there is something in the system to accomodate you in your time of need.

I'm not so sure that this is true. I would go sign up anyway. Let the mediator determine if you are eligible or not.
I would call your local employment office and ask a counsellor about it. That won't cost you anything and they can certianly answer that question for you. |

Thank you all!! My biggest worry is the strain on my marriage, my hubby is very understanding but we are one of the couples who only fight when we have money problems. We have spent the past 2 years fighting and getting out of debit to just reach where we need to be about 2 months ago. Now is all going to go down the tubes again. I always have a hard time finding a job with no diaplomia and crazy schedule because of the kids, Our youngest starts school all day next september so I was holding out on job hunting, and I just retook my GED for the 6th time(can't pass the math) and will get those results the 1st week of november. Thanks again everyone for the shoulders to cry on, I may be needing them alot in the next few weeks. I told my hubby I'm gonna use the time off to top his favs list, we always kid with each other about who has more, I was gaining on him fast till he just got two ribbons. Guess I'll have to get one soon too.
