What would be the subject of a landscape shot. I've seen and taken many of these type shots and in most of them there is not one "true" subject.

| The landscape itself is the subject, along with the elements that make up the landscape. |

It could be a dominant object in the foreground, midground, or background, or there may be no subject at all. Effective landscapes don't need to necessarily have a subject as long as the photo incorporates something else to keep the viewer interested, such as diagnol lines or intricate patterns.
