I found this through aol's newpage and it was taken from an artical in "PC World"...

"I've never dropped my digital still camera in the bath but I guess it is becoming something of a problem for many users. After Olympus Optical launched its waterproof A?10 Digital camera in January, Casio Computer has come up with a waterproof housing for its popular Exilim line of thin digital still cameras.

The EWC-1 case went on sale in mid-April and costs $83, which is a cheap insurance package for your more expensive Exilim should you be using it in situations where it will get wet. The case protects the camera from water but not pressure and so can be used safely to a depth of around 3 yards."

....I guess the writer of that never had kids drop the phone or the camera in the toilet or the bathtub....mine put a cordless phone in the toilet and did a cheap digital in by throwing it in the tub one night. Gosh I would pay $83 for a waterproof housing for my DiMage, you should see me and my ziplock bag homemade raincoat I made so I could shoot in the rain the other week.

I hear ya there! I saw the waterproof digital cams in my local camera store. I was thinking how useful this would be with the MANY weeks of rain we have had (and will continue to have according to the forecast).

I am glad to see digital taking on the waterworld... I used to love taking underwater photos with film of coral reefs and what not! Cool!

I've had a waterproof housing for my S40 for a while. Absolutely love it. Not only is it good for use in the water (duh), but it's fantastic as a protection against the elements in general. For instance, I can toss my camera, contained in the housing, in our beach bag, and grab the occasional great shot of the kids playing in the surf without having to worry at all about messing the camera up.

This was taken with my waterproof housing.

Yes indeed. The next camera I buy will definitely be waterproof or there will be a relatively inexpensive housing I can buy for it that isn't too bulky. I only found one for my current camera and the price was ridiculous (it was more for deep underwater scuba diving and came with attachments for strobe lights and other stuff I really don't need at this point). It would have been great to have in Yosemite last weekend where I was on the Mist trail under the waterfalls and I had my camera in a plastic bag with a rubberband around the lens with a hole cut out. It was absurd. The pictures came out alright, but I was still worried about water leaking in around the lens and sometimes I didn't realize that parts of the bag had blown around in front of the lens and ruined the pictures since I couldn't see through the back to look in the viewfinder. I'm going to wait for them to make waterproof digitals for about a year until they're standard and cheaper.

Our local newspaper had a short item today about Sony's new Cybershot U DSC-U60. It's really small - 60mm wide by 116mm high, two megapixel, and can be used up to 1.5m underwater. They didn't give any information about lenses - given the size it's probably a fixed lens - or price. Perhaps somebody knows more about it.

You mean I can't take my D1H swimming with me? Hmmm... that must be the reason it quit working the other day... I knew I shouldn't have taken it deep sea diving ;-) Hehehe... no really though I would love to have a waterproof case for my camera... but it is SOOOOO expensive!
