Why am I thanking Skiprow? He inspired me to try!

Tomorrow I have a test assignment for a local paper! They liked what they saw but since I have no previous photojournalism experience I have a test first. But, after reading Skip's details on his assignments, I think I'm ready! Woohoo!

My biggest problem will be approaching people to ask to take their picture. Usually, I just do it. Honestly, I'm shaking just thinking about it. Or maybe I forgot to take my meds. :)

Anyway, thank you Skip for all your posts and tips and work and for this:
"The only mistake you can make here is to quit trying"

Thank You!

UPDATE!

Thank you to all the well wishers!

I just got word from the associate editor. Well, a couple of words:
1. They really liked my images for the paper and I have the job.
2. They may use some of my images in another paper (there are about 5 locally owned by Gannett) and want to pay me!

Yeehaa!

Anyway, I have two things to thank for my good fortune:
Skiprow'sgreat advice: Captioning! I got names, places, groups, what they were doing all in detail.
Mark Hancock advice to shoot verbs.

So, while it won't pay the rent, it will look good on my resume. Wish me luck...

Thanks everyone!

Clara, its either the Crofton Crier or the Bowie Blade. And I erred - Its owned by Capital-Gazette newspapers.

I can post some of my favorites later tonight. I have one I was going to use for Complementary Colors II but figured in the end I would get downgraded for not the 'right' colors. :)

wow, courtenay! that's FANTASTIC!!! w2g!

make sure you get 'at least' two copies of the paper whenever you get anything published--one to keep whole, and one to clip.

the only other thing to remember is to only say no if it's physically impossible to make the assignment ;-)

keep it up, and keep us posted!!!

Congrats!!! Don't be too nervous about asking to take pictures of people :-) Thought I know what you mean, it terrifies me too! I had my first experience with it ever a couple of weeks ago, and both individuals were totally happy to pose for me :-)

Plus, look at it this way....you have the advantage of being able to say you're taking their picture for the PAPER....which most people are MORE than happy to do :-) Makes them a celebrity ;-)
