Anyone who doubts the value of DPC need look no further than Elsapo's profile and portfolio. He's been on the site for about a year and a half, and improved by orders of magnitude in that time.

Justin's first 10 entries scored no higher than 5.6, and half of those were in the 4 range. Composition, lighting, presentation and overall appeal were... uh, underwhelming. Fast forward 42 challenges later: 9 of his last 10 scores were above 6, and three of his last five went above 7 for ribbons. In 24 challenges this year, he's only dipped below 6 five times, and most of those were BARELY under 6. Scores don't tell the whole story, of course, but just look at the images- yow!

Here's teenager who went from taking "eh, whatever" pictures to one of this site's finest photographers in an incredibly short amount of time. What I find especially remarkable is the smooth transition in scores and overall skill. His progression is so obvious and relentless. Justin has pretty much mastered the art of photography, not just with a particular style or location, but with a deep understanding that allows him to succeed across the board: portraits, macros, landscapes, nature, still life, whatever. His latest efforts are dripping in everything his first entries lacked... color, style, composition, lighting, appeal... all top notch. My hat's off to you, buddy. Keep going!

It's always interesting to look at the progression of some of the site's most accomplished photographers, if only to remind ourselves that there's still hope after all :)

He just has a great looking model to use.
*sigh*

I completely agree, I always love seeing what Justin has next. Even though he uses the same model, she is gorgeous and i never get sick of seeing her.
Well done to you Justin!

Woot. A tribute to Elsapo thread. I'm in. His work is awesome and as mentioned, an amazing success story! To think that this feral kid was found in the woods being raised by wolves only a short time ago.

I like him a whole lot better than Joey Whats-his-name. ;-P j/k Joey. :)

Absolutely! Let's give a shout out to all the next-gen photographers - Elsapo, JoeyL, and let's not forget annah

Ah, to be young again! Word of advice - don't squander your talents! Get into a good photography school, make contacts, and start posting your pics on National Geographics or an NY gallery! To borrow a quote from Ben Afleck in Good Will Hunting, "it would be an insult to us (wannabe's) if you are still here in a few years." :-)

Or to remind the rest of us old timers that there's not.

Actually, it was a rogue band of armadillos...this is Texas, you know. ;)

Justin possesses tremendous talent as well as motivation and the desire to succeed. He's also humble, and a really nice person to boot. I'm tickled to see him get some recognition. Way to go Justin!!!! :)

I've had Justin on my Favorite Photographers list since 7/29/05 since I saw the work in his Animal Folder(Galapagos if I recall correctly???)

Great Macro work too.

I agree the DPC works...hands down without a question. I was in the 4's and 5's with my earlier work and have moved up consistently since joining.

BRAVO Justin!!! BTW I'd bet at least 200 of your profile hits are from me alone...I just keep coming back.

Another ditto...
Wonderful both creatively and technically, many of his more recent images have made me really stop and look... and look... and look again.

I agree with you all!! He's doing marvelous work in portraits, as well as macros. I have a few of his pics in my favorites.

Congratulations Justin and keep on going. Remember that the only limits are in your mind.

Yeah, man...for sure.

no kidding! I went through Justins early pictures a few weeks back. It is great to watch a members progressive development. I have to say his eye for compostion was there right from the beginning, and everything else has just slotted nicely into place around it.
