All this complaining about comments is just an ego thing. Notice me, please.
If you are here to learn, make lots of in depth comments. That's the best way to improve your own photography. Compare your shot to the other entries. |
You know, I could argue that entering a photo into the contest at all is a big ego thing. And that expecting 100-200 people to take the time to look at the photo and give it a score is an ego thing as well. And that expecting that instead of considering it a gift is no better than expecting comments.
It's not an 'ego' thing to want comments. It's a frustration thing. It's wanting to know WHY someone thinks my picture sucks. Don't tell me "making comments is the best way blah blah blah". Yeah, making comments helps me figure out a certain amount of things, which is why I do, but it doesn't tell me what specifically about my picture is the issue in people's eyes. Maybe I look at my picture and don't see anything that is so flawed as to require a '1' vote from someone. Or a '2' or '3' even. So how am I going to figure it out if NO ONE LEAVES COMMENTS?
That having been said, I'm not in favor of changing this site to suddenly require comments; it's not something people signed up for. However, I have just voted on all the Magazine Cover pictures and only left comments on a few, the first round I've voted on that's true of, and I don't know if I'm going to bother to go back and do the rest. Why should I? No one else does.
THAT is the attitude your "comments are a gift, stop complaining" ends up engendering. |
