I could never have imagined how much I've learned and improved in a short time on DPC. The DPC community is incredibly friendly and helpful and constructive in their criticisms. The tutorials and links are great as well. |

Drew,
I'm begging you to go back and find those favorites that you don't think you'll be able to find!
While I have absolutely no doubt that everybody believes the things they're writing in here, they all sound incredibly stuffy and stilted. (Apart from maybe Jacko's "DPC Rocks!" and a couple of others.) Book jacket endorsements, not "honest" praise.
"From the moment I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. 3001: The Final Odyssey is a tour de force that finally answers the questions that sparked the imaginations of an entire generation." -- Buzz Aldrin
"From the moment I joined, I couldn't stop. DPC is a tour de force that finally sparks my imagination in ways no other photo site has been able to do."
OK, again, before I get ripped to shreds: I don't doubt these are honest feelings -- I agree with almost everything being said -- it's just the way it's being said that I find "unnatural."

Patella, I have to admit you're right. I went back and read mine and it is a bit stuffy. Drew, the spontaneous ones would be better.

Patella,
I'll be happy to lend you my asbestos ascot! Please note that your "review" of 3001:... makes me want the book, and makes me laugh about something I was just trying for the upcoming challenge...
Maybe we can split up the Forums sections and each scan some for a few good paragarphs. |

DPC has served to shake me out of my comfort zone. I'm continually being stretched beyond my former parameters. While there are other good photography sites, DPC truly "challenges" me and is specifically targeted toward my love of "digital photography." Thanks DPC!

Thank you all for your wonderful comments here. Everyone who's said something here has been added to the quotes feature. We really do appreciate the kind words and praise, even if we asked for it! :)
I'm not worried about comments sounding 'stuffy', but incidentally, I don't think the comments are stuffy at all. I'm very proud to read them all, and I think they speak wonders about the site.
Feel free to add any additional comments if you have them! :)
Drew

I think the phrase you are looking for is "not spontaneous". Certainly mine were not. Whenever you ask someone to write something on a topic, you will generally get thought out and edited language. That's what most of these comments are. The appropriate question is - what is Drew looking for.

Taking advantage of the high-traffic night to get a few more quotes for our handy little feature ... or maybe just to pad our egos...

DPC has provided an outlet for a hobby my husband and I can enjoy together, not to mention the motivation to spend more money on another camera, so we don't have to share!! It has allowed us to meet new people and make international friends that help make our life more interesting.

Last night I read some of the comments here and agree with Patella that they have that ring of hallmark-moment phonyness. I therefore worked up a slice-of-reality testimonial in notepad. Here goes:
I joined DPC about six months ago and ever since I have been spending just about every waking second at this wonderful place. About two months after I joined DPC, my loving husband of 27 years, Jake, started to get very busy at work which required him to put in long hours at the office and also required him to fly every Thursday afternoon to Chicago for regional meetings and he would not return home until late Friday evening . So, it was just great for me that I could while away the lonely evenings chatting at DPC and learning so much about photography.
Then, some time ago, I received an anonymous phone call from a *concerned citizen* that Jake, my husband, was having an affair with a nineteen year old buxom blonde bimbo. Apparently, he was rendez-vousing with her on Thursday nights in room 6 of the Shanghri-La Motel near downtown.
The Thursday night following that anonymous phone call I did not visit DPC but instead went to room 6 of the Shanghri-La Motel around 11 in the evening. Well, it became a roaring fight in room 6 between Jake and myself, with the Victoria Secret-clad bimbo shrieking and sobbing under the bed covers. Thanks to DPC I had gotten into the habit of having my digital camera with me at all times. The worst part of it was that *Sordidness* had been the DPC challenge a week before. So, there I was with a ton of really sordid pictures and still nothing to submit for the weekly challenge. However, the pictures should strengthen my hand in divorce court as I intend to suck that b@stard Jake dry.
After that little episode at the Shanghri-La Motel I put Jake's belongings out at the curb and he moved into a furnished studio apartment somewhere, or so I heard. Living all alone now I find myself having plenty of spare time. I hope therefore that with the site redesign, DPC will change the challenge frequency from weekly to daily.
Actually, I don't miss Jake one bit, I always hated his snoring, and am just overjoyed not having to invite that awful mother of his anymore for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. But one night DPC was down because of problems with a new server and I felt so empty and miserable.
Sincerely, Sue
BTW, i haven't been here for a couple of weeks and got freaked out when an ad, in Spanish no less, appeared while i was trying to write my post. No hablo ingles y no clique aqui! Heck, for a moment i thought i was in Southern California. |
