I don't vote anymore, but occasionally I'll leave comments -- or at least I thought I was. I left a comment on one of the entries in the Conspiracy challenge, but it's not there!
Since I wasn't voting I just clicked the 'next' button (to the right of the 10) after typing my comment and went on to the next picture.
Is this by design, or merely an oversight?

Can you comment within the competition time without voting?
I thought comments without voting could only happen after the competition had ended.

You can comment without voting, but I think it needs to be done from the comment icon. If you hit the next button you are navigating away without taking any action to 'Submit' the comment.

I thought we were supposed to be able to comment without voting as well.
I'll call this to the attention of the admins.

Terry - It does work, but you can't just comment from the voting page - it has to be done using the little white 'comment' icon that shows next to each image on the voting thumbnail page. I'm pretty sure that the script on the voting page doesn't gather any data unless a vote number is selected.
I've done this myself when I didn't have time to vote but wanted to comment on a few images that jumped out at me.

| You have to cast a vote to get your comment to stick. If you vote under 20% the votes will be stripped so you don't have to worry about skewing the results. At least that's what I've found out to be true at this point in time. Maybe it will change in the future. |

... and thanks to Barry for the workaround. I just hope it's temporarily useful -- I don't like commenting from the thumbnail page any more than I would like to vote from them.
