Hi All,
I need to buy a new printer for my photos. I am on a budget & would like to get one on the price range of $200 or less if that's possible. But, I need a printer that produces high quality, archival prints. Longevity is a big thing for me ........aside from my own photography, I also scan & print old photographs to help preserve & share them with family. I know I could go to a local photolab, but I like adjusting & printing them for myself and family. I need to "see" that I've got the right effect going on.............
I currently have a Canon i550 - which is at it's end. Also I have an Epson C86 - although the inks are fade & waterproof compared to others, the quality of the photo prints are horrible. This printer is really only good for printing text & such.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lori

Canon makes a nice printer, but they scrape the bottom of the barrel for archival ratings.
For top archival performance look at newer models from Epson and HP.
BTW, all the printers out there on the market produce stunning print quality. Seriously, trying to make comparisons about the output is silly. |

I just picked up the the EPSON R200 for $79.00 After a $20.00 rebate and have been quite impressed with it. It is the same 6 Ink printer that the EPSON R320 is but without all the "Point and Shot" features like Cards slots and LCD for Cropping. The R320 is about $150.00.
They both print on printable CD/DVDs.

Just wanted to thank you two for your opinions. I ended up buying HP photosmart 8250. I have test printed a few photos & am very happy with it.
Thanks!

Good deal. I have 2 HP printers myself... a big one and a little one. Both are great printers.
Do be mindful that HP inks are not water resistant. Meaning, that if you should chance to get water splashed on one your prints it will likely be ruined. Not that this is big deal, as I have never been in the habit of showering with my prints :) |
