I just got a Nikon D70s and shot a few pictures today in RAW. I was able to view them using Picture Project (software that came with the camera) I was then able to view them in PS7 (looked like a plug in maybe). In Picture Project I was able to make some lighting adjustments.

I'm at a total loss about RAW, in viewing I could see that they were far superior images (no pixelation etc) BUT do I need to upgrade to PS/CS in order to edit, will I edit them the same way I do jpg files in PS?

Thanks in advance, and if this has already been covered somewhere, please redirect me.

There have been some threads before, however finding them is another matter.
Image editor ssuch as PS don't work on RAW files directly, you convert them to TIFF or JPEG first. You will need a RAW converter; you have the Nikon software supplied with your cam, or you could download Raw Shooter Essentials (free version) if you prefer. You make adjustments to exposure, white balance, etc. in the RAW converter to get as close to your final objective as is reasonable, then save as a TIFF or JPEG. From there you can do any further (spot) editing on the converted file.
