FWIW, I use the equipment I suggested for product shots at my office and on location several times a week. You may not need everything right away (we only have the 17-40 lens at the office, and still don't own a light meter), but the setup has proven very capable for our needs. |

Still curious about your job, though...
Do they give you specific things to shoot, like "go out and take a pic of a banana, with some strawberries on the side" or do they say "shoot something to go in this frame. Make it nice."? Also, is it full time?
Anyways, it sounds like fun any way you slice it. And new gear to boot!
I look forward to seeing some shots.
Congrats!

Roseann, I thought I might post my reply to your PM here as well, in case others wanted info on the subject.
I mostly use a lighting tent to help diffuse the lighting. There are many available, but I use one called a cocoon. It works well for me since it is made of translucent plastic diffusion panels which allow me to shoot wet products, such as frosty beer glasses, etc. There are many other types of tents available, but they will help to diffuse the light and give a very even, soft lighting to your shots.
I also have two small softboxes that I use when the product doesn't fit in the cocoon.
It also lets you light it from all sides, so you can get your lighting just right. You can also not light certain areas to create gradients in your backgrounds.
I hope this helps. Good luck.
