Critiquing a photo in terms of numbers, I find, is counter-productive. Not only does it limit the critique, but I find that it doesn't really help the photographer in any way. If you'll look at the comments I've given, you'll see the critique method I use, which I feel is a strong and informative method. Other critiquers also have their methods.

It's definitely not a bad thing to try and have a good, consistent, informative critique from the club.. but I'd just avoid a number or scale system at any cost.

As for changing your details, go to "My Portfolio", go to the challenge image, click on it once, and change whatever details you need to there.

First of all, thanks for the tip about changing photo Details after a challenge :) I never knew I could do that so easily :$

As about my suggestion on CC having a structured system, it is only in "addition" to what the CC members are currently doing. I hope it's not too much to ask, since I just felt that having a set of criterias while giving a CC comment would help the photographer understands WHY and WHERE his photo is liked more or liked least by the CC, and then he could work towards that direction to improve his photography, or just that perticular shot.

Thanks for your time. And thanks to the CC for their time :)

I understand that, but I'm just personally not sold on a number scale.. it'd be an interesting test for others maybe, but I doubt I'd personally use it :)

*EDIT TO ADD* Not that I've been critiquing lately anyway.. I burnt myself out with that flurry in October.. heh. Should get back to that maybe.

Lets say we drop the "numbers" (I knew my drafted example got loads of holes in it, lol). But I still think having a structured way for the CC will help ease the commenting load a bit. Maybe the CC member could just give a good/average/poor on each of the criterias? Also, remember that the original CC method of commenting is still valid in the new structure. I wouldnt want that removed! :) An again, just a suggestion, not trying to make life difficult for anyone, hehe

I have just started doing critiques. I found that I use a simple structure that reminds me what I want to talk about. This works for me but may not work for others. We are all individuals, and need to work in a style that works best for ourselves.

I do use a template but not numbers. If it's of any interest/use to anyone, here it is ...
[ B][ I]::: Critique Club :::[/b][/i]

[ B]First Impression - the most important one:[/b]

[ B]Composition:[/b]

[ B]Subject:[/b]

[ B]Technical (Colour, focus, and light):[/b]

[ B]To grow its vote?:[/b]

[ B]Summary:[/b]

I just find it very easy to do critiques when I have a framework to work with. Copy at will (just take the space out of "[ B]" etc, I had to put it in to show the codes

Once I do a critique, I make sure to PM the photographer who took the photo. So for those wondering, you should be made aware, and I make sure of that so you can check it in your comments area. I just wanted to clarify that point, and for members of the Club that aren't doing this, you may want to. Some photos submitted may be back logged, and they may not think to go and read the comment at a much later date. So, just a suggestion, but it is nice to let it be known comment has been made as requested.

Rose,

This is a great idea, and I know I and many others do the same thing as well. I find that it benefits both the photographer (by ensuring they see the critique) and me (I get the satisfaction of knowing my work was read, and a better chance of getting the "helpful" check).
