Thanks to all the people who commented on my photo in the D&L challenge, even if it was only to say 'Huh', :-).

To save myself PM'img each person, this is how I saw I saw D&L in the picture. When I first saw the leaves (and those stalks are actually leaves of some wierd plant found in this part of the world) with the snow and ice I was immediately reminded of little totems. So, two faces on two totems = Drew and Langdon.

Thanks
Tony

That one wnet right over my head, I'm sorry to say. I bet if you'd called it "Drew & Langdon in Snow & Ice" It would have clued a few people in. Interesting take on the challenge. And it sure must be rare to have snow down there, LOL.

I know that I am disappointed in my showing. I have not done well in past challenges - I took advantage of dpc and have learned a great deal. My D&L submission was one of the best photos I have ever taken IMO. So, I was disappointed when I watched with great anticipation my score (hovering in the upper 5s) take a nose dive after two votes.... knowing that could only mean 1,2,3s were being given. Finishing in the 60s was an eye opener - that apparantly I have a ways to go.

I'll continue to try to get better, and outside of a couple of comments regarding the leaf size...I don't know what could have been done to improve the shot. My guess is it simply is a matter of "beauty in the eye of the beholder" blah blah blah - BRAVO to the winners...great job! I thought SJCARTER should have been up there with you, but I thought I should have ranked in the top 30. Well...that will be my goal for this year. Thanks to all who left comments. Another goal for this year 50% comments.

Your image is a graceful salute to life, Sherri1209. Your capturing this is an indication of who you are; you have accomplished self-revelation, a hallmark of art. Compositionally and creatively, this is one of most evocative pictures in this challenge. Though I am not a member and cannot vote, I AM a photographer who knows a good photograph. Understand that your finish in this challenge is no indication as to the merit of this piece. This site, while an exceptionally fine tool for learning the correct use of a camera and editing tools, contains such a great majority of novices, competitive camera clickers and photography literalists that there is small opportunity for proper reward of diverse artistic merit in photography by filtration through whole body voting. There are other sites where this style of shot will receive a more fair hearing before a jury of your peers. I recommend you not change your artistic direction one millimeter to accomodate the whims of voting here. This received 60 votes indicating it was below average in quality. If you and those voters accept that as factual, my advise is to find a different hobby. One which you and they can acheive some level of competentcy in vision ... because it ain't happenin' here.
