what bums me out is that oly (nor any of the other brands) is putting out an updated long zoom camera with IS and more pixels ..
i love wildlife and long range photojournalistic photography and would instantly snap up a 4MP 10x zoom IS camera ..
maybe the demand just isn't there .. : (

It is but Canon has the IS technology and is not willing to share after they got burned on it when they contracted Olympus (Pro90IS vs C-2100UZ)
From my analytical thinking my guess is that Canon wants to push the dSLRs on the people who want the 10x IS cameras since the D60 coupled with their IS lenses works great...So, this is why my next camera will probably be a Canon (I just hope I don't have to sell my soul to the devil to get one)
PS. Panasonic just came out with a 12x IS camera but from what I heard it wasn't very good (Oly glass is way better)

The price would be to high. The larger CCD's are more expensive and when the CCD is larger (you want that to avoid excessive noise), you will need a better and larger lens system (more hq mp's ask a better lens and the other crop factor needs more physical zoom range to get to 10x). Add IS to that and you will be paying the price of a D60 body for a 5mp 10xzoom IS.
