Double quote today:
"Any good photograph is a successful synthesis of technique and art."
"No one can do inspired work without genuine interest in his subject and understanding of its characteristics."

These quotes exhibit a severe deficiency of pompous didacticism.
Seriously, I think the second is the more "important" as it applies to any endeavor (music, carpentry or cooking) and not just to photography. Although, I think people can be occasionally "inspired" (or maybe lucky) in an unfamiliar situation. |

I like the second quote because it applies directly to 'challenges'. When a challenge is subjectively limiting, it makes it much more difficult to get motivated to pursue a photograph...

I agree -- maybe that's why I seem so often to have a photo where I've had to either sacrifice quality or "stretch" the interpretation of the challenge to find a subject. |
